Re: England v Slovakia match thread
I think it's great we can make these changes, so many options and different ways to play up front. I'd bring in Wilshere for Ali this game too. If we can go a couple of goals in front by around 60 minutes I'd look at bringing Stones on to give him some minutes as, despite people's opinions on him, he may be needed later on in the tournament.evomutant wrote:Rumours from the Guardian journo are that Kane will be dropped for Sturridge and Sterling for Vardy.
Salt. Pinch. Etc.
Re: England v Slovakia match thread
I'd make a lot of changes. Although we can't take this game for granted getting a rest for the player who have played two matches could make a big difference later on, it's worth the risk for this match.

Start with the same team that finished against Wales.
Go for the win from the very start.
England 3-1 Slovakia.

Looking at the state of the pitch in Paris tonight, afraid it might be more of the same:

Re: England v Slovakia match thread
Rest players? Its only 7 games to win it.
Slovakia need a point realistically to guarantee progress. Thats enough for us to get 2nd but we will want to top the group. Expect them to do much the same as most teams vs us and sit back.
Vardy and sturridge have to start after their impact on thursday. Kane will have to make way, which is harsh on him but he will be a good sub to have. Sterling surely cannot start.

Re: England v Slovakia match thread
I don't buy into this theory that if a sub makes a good impact they should start, it often doesn't roll that way.
I'd probably start Vardy but I'd definitely leave Sturridge as an impact sub for now. Let Skrtel kick the sh*t out of Kane then bring Sturridge on when he's tired.
Sturridge is our best finisher and can see him being even more important as the tournament wears on. If we can get through the group introducing him slowly he will be seen to full effect in the knock outs.

I'm hoping we don't rest players but wouldn't mind Vardy, Sturrdige, Wilshere coming in for Sterling, Kane and Ali, sod all this squad rotation nonsense they get six day break after this anyway, lets put out our strongest team, get the win.

I wouldn't be dicking about with the defence personally. When it comes to the back four we need the whole to be more than the sum of the parts. Keep them playing together and forming an understanding.
Room for more flexibility with front six though.

I'd start Sturridge if we expect to use him. Always in my mind when he comes on as sub that he may get injured and you need to use two subs for the one position. Just tell him to come up with a new dance please.

Re: England v Slovakia match thread
Clearly Sterling is done, so we have to replace him on the left side. I don't think Vardy can play in that role but Sturridge can so that's one change.
Vardy/Kane competing for central striker slot.
Poss bring in Wiltshire for Alli.
So 3 changes tops in my book.

Re: England v Slovakia match thread
6 changes coming apparently.
I don't get it, play what you think is your best team, give them more time to gel, if they get a win it will give them confidence. There's 6 days rest after this. If we win and he then makes 6 changes again next match, what has that done for us?

Re: England v Slovakia match thread
It's not a given that it has to happen, but looking at how Sterling played the first two games, and looking at how ineffective Kane was (not all his fault) I can't see how we can't make changes up top in this instance.Billydinho wrote:I don't buy into this theory that if a sub makes a good impact they should start, it often doesn't roll that way.

Re: England v Slovakia match thread
Rumours have it of 6 changes
Both full backs
Henderson Wiltshire Vardy and Sturridge in
Dropping Rooney will be the mistake.
I shall be there to cheer whoever plays

Re: England v Slovakia match thread
Risking resting half our team when we still need to win this game to guarantee top of the group. Seems silly without hindsight but we'll see I guess.
