Wales vs Russia

Post by The Old Man of Storr »

Stadium De Tolouse

20.00

Wales meet Russia and will need at least a draw to remain in the competition , a win will see us finish second if England win as expected - the bad news is we could face Germany or Spain in the next round but better than going out tonight .
The Russians held out for a draw against England then lost 2-1 against Slovakia the team that Wales beat by the same score .
This Group hasn't really given any pointers as to the result of tonight's game but Wales will have to play a more positive game against Russia than they did against the English if they're to get the 3 points needed .

Prediction - Wales 2 Russia 1

Cymru Am Byth !!

I don't think Russia are actually a poor side. In their recent match with England there was a period, particularly in the second half when they looked reasonably decent. I think this is going to be a hard game for them

They aren't a poor side, but they are missing their 2 first choice midfielders, one of which is their creative midfielder. It probably hasn't helped Dzyuba who has often been isolated. Under Slutsky they were looking like a fast improving side.

I think a draw tonight.

Indeed Pete. Indeed.

What a great night for the Welsh. I was in Wales last week and family and friends were part of this huge buzz even in a sleepy little town like where most of my lot come from. They'll be ecstatic tonight.

Anyway, enjoy it Pete - it may be another 58 years until the next time

I was 20 minutes late in seeing it as Jen wanted to watch a BBC series we had recorded . :)
Joe Allen was on top form tonight , Aaron Ramsey found some form as did Bale - Joe Ledley and Joe Allen for me were the beating heart of the side , we should have won by at least 6 goals to nil , we missed some glorious chances - why we couldn't have played like this against England I'll never know - the passing was slick and confidence flowed throughout the whole team , in fact it's possibly the best I've seen Wales play .
Russia should have scored 1 but that doesn't detract from how well the Welsh played , I'm very proud of those lads tonight and the supporters played their part .
I wasn't looking forward to finishing 2nd to be honest , England have the players to cope with the better teams so I hope both of our countries do well .
I was quite surprised that England only managed a draw against Slovakia but relieved you did for the reasons I've explained above .
Now it gets serious !

A wonderful second goal - the Ruskies all asleep and Neil Taylor getting two goes before scoring. I bet he thought Xmas had come early. Well done boyos, can now enjoy your progress a bit more now that we are both through.

Fantastic performance last night, it's still sinking in. I thought Joe Allen was brilliant, with the right players around him his quality definitely shows, the Welsh Pirlo

Same here, I think it's made this tournament and our performances all the more special for myself, my dad would have absolutely loved this, and he didn't like football!!!!
