Chill gloom merchants, even if Sterling proves to be the weak link I'm sure we can carry him for 70 minutes and still cruise through. Probably best to wait until half time before criticising him lol.

The bloke is a buffoon.
Ross Barkley may as well gone off to Vegas for a holiday if Woy had no intention of putting him in the team.

It's not being a doom merchant. It's the truth that sterling has been gash for ages and I feel sorry for him.
Re: England v Iceland....
He came on the scene very young and was then very promising. He then made completely the wrong move to Man City and doesn't play as they have better more experienced players, he is not the first this has happened to.steveherts66 wrote:It's not being a doom merchant. What he needs is a transfer to a mid table club (or abroad) where he can play regularly and become the player it looked like he would be. The problem is his transfer fee to City which was way OTT though maybe they will cut their losses - but probably not.

Re: England v Iceland....
Agree with that but our England manager should not be putting him in the firing line. Shouldn't have taken him but that's another thread.
Re: England v Iceland....
He still managed 3000 minutes all comps last season, 11 goals, 10 assists, I don't think he was as terrible as people make out, just the price tag hanging over him.
Admittedly he lacks intelligence in the final third, but at 21 and under Pep his game should improve.
Still should be capable of skinning people and getting in good positions tonight, lets just hope he plays a bit smarter with his final ball. I'll reserve judgement until half time though.

Are we talking about different players? He has been truly awful whenever I've seen him. Nothing to do with price tag.

Re: England v Iceland....
I'd have chucked Rashford in with Kane and Sturridge up top. Lallana and Rooney in midfield, Dier deep. The FB can provide the width. Iceland are going to sit deep, so why not have attackers who can get at them?

Re: England v Iceland....
Sterling never has, and never will be a striker. His end product by and large is poor. Since joining MCFC has done little to justify the fee paid and spent half the season on the bench. So can someone please explain how he is even in the squad let alone the starting line-up?

Re: England v Iceland....
I reckon sterling will score and get man of the match, Iceland are not good against pace, he'll have an easy game tonight then start in the next against better opposition and be shown up and let his country down again

Anything is possible but it's not a gamble we should be taking at this stage but he's done himself up taking 5 strikers when only playing 1 up top.

England will win 3 nil and we'll be in cruise control by 60 minutes in.
I bet Sterling will have a decent game too.

Re: England v Iceland....
Still undecided about Sterling.
The rest looks right and good formation.
4 3 3 should give us an early goal scoring opportunity.
I would prefer Rashford up front.
