In the unlikely event the unthinkable happens, yes, I think it just might

A no lose situation for me. Either England progress, or I win a **** load of cash.

Iceland will sit deep, defend doggedly and hope to nick one on the break, a set piece or penalties.
Dont expect a classic game.

Ba-boom tish!
Personally I think we'll scrape a win against Iceland, but we'll stuff the Paddies in the next round

Re: England v Iceland....
I'm not saying Iceland are world beaters but we should not under estimate them. They did the double in qualifying over a Holland team that we recently lost to, have performed admirably in the tournament so far and have a good manager who is getting the absolute optimum out of the limited set of players he has his disposal. The notion from some that we're already through when we couldn't turn over the poorest team in the competition and have so little nous is baffling.

Re: England v Iceland....
think we'll win this one. exactly the kind of feel good underdogs that we can scrape past before meeting monsieur payet.
was actually looking forward to portugal. win or lose i reckon that would've been a cracking game of football between two evenly matched sides, if we dispensed with them we really could've been looking to go on a bit of a run.
as in, even if we win this we'll still have very little idea how well we'll do against a big tournament side.

Re: England v Iceland....
I have been saying it from the start that England can go far in this tournament and I still say it.
They are not the most talented group of players that you lot have had but they can still be difficult to beat on their day.
If they hit a run of form anything could happen.

Re: England v Iceland....
Real statement of intent match. Squad/Team to do it and carry momentum into a possible marquee match up against the hosts in Paris.
Or another totally abject performance from English players that can only play well in the domestic
league surrounded by overseas players of greater ability.
Oh how far we've fallen since 66.
England.

I would think that's about par .James P wrote:I'm not worried. 3-0.
Of course Iceland will make it difficult, park the bus, stick 10 men behind the ball etc etc , and why not ? They are entitled to chose the tactics they prefer , as are England .
Hopefully Roy and his staff will have thought a bit more about how to unlock dogged defensive set ups and deploy their plans accordingly .
I'd start with the XI that would be the first choices against France should England get through , and make changes at half time if needed or on 70 minutes just to see the game out if ahead .
There are no Icebergs to hit , England will not be the Titanic .
I fancy England to beat France as well if they are the next opponent .

Score in the first half and everything in the world will be fine, don't score, and squeaky bum time.
Yep, start with the team that you believe is the best eleven, make changes from there.
We should win this comfortably, 2/3 nil, but Iceland will be dogged, keep shouting out "son" when they have the ball just to confuse them as well.

Re: England v Iceland....
Another game against a team that will do nothing but defend.
I was 100% certain we should have left Carroll at home before the Euro's started. Since 1990, International football has become an unwatchable procession of minor fouls and rolling around on the floor. However, seeing how the referees are allowing some physical play and adding in how defensive all our opponents have been so far, I'm wondering if a player like Big Andy might have been a worthwhile inclusion after all?
