Who next for England?

Post by ironilunga »

Anger courses through my veins when I allow myself to think of the limp wet lettuces that have occupied the England hot seat throughout the best years of my life. They have generally shared the following qualities;

Tactically inept, blindly loyal,lacking courage to drop 'star players', shoehorning players into a team at the expense of the system, lacking no passion and unable to motivate their squad.

So two questions;

1. Who would you give it to
2. Who do you think will actually get it?

Southgate...with Stuart Pearce as his coach, motivator and the person you go to when you deliver performances like last night.

Was tongue in cheek but have you seen the names of the has-been managers being mentioned elsewhere?

Allardyce.

You may all laugh, but the alternatives are not great, and he at least knows how to get the best out of a group of average players, and he most certainly would not compromise his system to shoe-horn in the odd "star".

Who cares about attractive football at major international tournaments anyway? We just want to win it.

He's the obvious candidate. He's never had a serious failure and he's too pig headed to be overly influenced by the media or big club syndrome. I don't think he would be so defensive with better players but at the same time I can't imagine a BS team defending the way England did for Iceland's first goal.

BS teams tend to over perform whereas England under perform when it matters. The last decent manager England had was Hoddle and Blair made sure he was gone.

I think the problem with England players is that they are simply too big for their boots. We need a manager who will be firm with players but at the same time instill drive and determination in players to want to play for their shirt. The manager should command respect but it seems like the other way round. The bigger egos think that their place in the squad is cemented.

If regulars are so assured of their position do the rest feel it is futile trying to force their way in? And if by some miracle they get any sniff of a chance they are under so much pressure to perform perfectly it is unreal whereas your Wilsheres, Harts, Sterlings can make mistake after mistake and still be protected. England were the most star-studded team at the Euros but they were the least cohesive. The Premier League as an entity is a massive part of the problem.

Would BFS do that much better than previous managers? He may make England solid and hard to beat but being in major finals is about winning and beating the top sides.

I'd pick Biesla.

That is the first step, without that you have nothing. Hodgson's team was definitely more attacking than any previously but their defending was woeful and that was the main trigger for last nights display. Walker was lauded early on for his performances but when it came down to a large part of his actual job - defending - he was shown up to be the worst full back in the competition.
I'd pick Biesla.
Please no foreign managers, even if they are better the manager should be English.
