No VAR, yet looked a pretty clear penalty for Argentina there.

This ref has decided to let them play thankfully

The France game was basically made even worse by VAR

It’s a diVARster

↑↑ Surely that makes the whole idea of VAR pointless and unfair based on who is reffing and if they are gonna switch to VAR

Yes.

They either let it slow games down and stop any momentum or they don’t.

Guess the 2 games so far where the referees have just got on with it....

I didn’t think that was a pen for Argentina, there was the tiniest bit of contact and Pavon threw himself to the floor. Perhaps they didn’t deem it a “clear and obvious error” (to use their terminology).

Ref has been brilliant for me, they've actually played football, it's flowed, been physical, i can't stand this nonsense of contact equals foul or you can go down

Surely a clearer more obvious error than in the previous match though? They've set a president and have managed not to follow that president in the very next match. By using that terminology they've deliberately muddied the waters and set VAR up to fail. Something apparently designed to reduce inconstancy isn't being applied consistently.

The VAR should have advised him to check the monitor otherwise what's the point. They can't possibly have seen those replays and thought that doesn't need a second look. It'd still be the Ref on the pitch that makes the final decision, so the decision would still stand if he didn't agree that the replays showed it was a foul.

That said 1 all is a great result for Iceland

Superb performance from Iceland.

Backs to the wall stuff for much of the game but kept their discipline, shape and organisation to stop a side with one or two of the worlds best players.

That's Argentina and France not winning the WC for my money.

I don't think Argentina will win it and although I get the point you are making, this is a marathon, not a sprint. History dictates the eventual winners normally start the competition slowly and gain momentum as the tournament progresses and those who start like an express train, falter the moment they meet a very well organised team who have done their homework

That Argie team is awful, they look like a team that just about qualified thanks to one man... Mascherano with 130 (sideways) passes sums them up.
