Christ, what an absolute roll-call of sh*te. 2 knockout games won since 1990
Still, we do rather like to slaughter our managers. The press are proper scum aren’t they.

Fair play to him for agreeing to sit in front of a camera and explain how much of a bell end he was to lose the gig after 1 game.

As soon as he walked onscreen and smiled it was clear he was going to be honest
Mental the FA genuinely thought he wouldn’t be cannon fodder with his track record

Really interesting seeing the past all threaded together like that. When you look atit like that it makes you realise how unbelievably calamitous England have been at World Cups.
Felt really sorry for Big Sam... by the sounds of it he'd happily take that meeting again even with hindsight.

No missed it, worth watching on iplayer if it's on there?
Calamitous, but we've been unlucky. Out on pens in 90, Hand of God in 86. Pens after a disallowed goal in 98, unlucky to lose to worthy winners in 2002 after being one of the better teams in the tourney, pens in 06, disallowed equaliser in 10. Crap in 14 and dnq in 94 notwithstanding.
2002 was a kicker. After beating the Argies in the group and thrashing the Danes I thought we had a good chance.
Fine margins and all that.

Definitely worth watching
Interesting how Sven came across as still having a level of passion and affection for his time, while Capello and Roy didn’t

Quite enjoyed it to be honest, probably could of been a 2 parter.
The press when it comes to the England manager are ridiculous, listening to Winter, it almost sounds like they believe they have a say in it.
The problem with our squad these days is they are petrified any mistake, red card, own goal, missed penalty and they will be absolutely crucified by the media. - I believe the media share the same amount of blame as the F.A for the shambles our national team are.
Río saying Hoddle was the best manager he ever played under, was way ahead of the curve and some of his ideas are being implemented today.
Let’s be honest, it’s a sh*t job. - Pretty mundane but pays well.

I'm not saying he didn't deserve to lose the job, but on a human level you just have to feel sorry for Sam.

I always thought this, he may have been very abrasive and the "faith healer" situation was bizarre but he knew how to play football.simonirons wrote:

Capello was the best manager we had, just look at the man's CV, big problem was he didn't seem that bothered and the players didn't want to listen/obey his quite strict methods, which are lets be honest are proven to work but the England players didn't buy into it.

Re: Anyone watching this thing about the England job on 2?
The 2 things I got from it was:
1) The press love to entrap an England manager just before a major tournament. With Sam it seemed almost personal and the press wanted him gone asap. It's almost as if they value copies sold over nation sporting success and pride.
2) The FA are a shower of
A bonus 3rd:
Henry Winter is a prat: Preemptively set to stick the knife in should we not have done well last night.

Henry Winter is everything wrong with sports journalism in the UK. Smug, opinionated, genuinely believes he knows everything better than everyone else and utterly in love with himself.

I don't even have to watch the programme to agree with the above points!Faithless wrote:The 2 things I got from it was:

I can’t feel sorry for anyone that smug, especially when it’s that same smugness which has caused them to fall flat on the face.Korea Hammer wrote:I'm not saying he didn't deserve to lose the job, but on a human level you just have to feel sorry for Sam.

I bet he's watched that program several times, each time thinking how great he was on camera.DasNutNock wrote:Henry Winter is everything wrong with sports journalism in the UK. Smug, opinionated, genuinely believes he knows everything better than everyone else and utterly in love with himself.
Cringeworthy.

I disagreed with him being sacked, it was a big overreaction. But I agree, I love this England team right now.e17 wrote:I’m glad they caught Allardyce
