Further than the 2 times they won it, Phil?

Definitely the biggest lady garden in the England women's team dressing room.

It's not the poor teams that's doing it, Samba. That last game may well be quite open and entertaining.
Saudi took the game to Uruguay, had most possession, as many attempts and more possession, I believe.
Uruguay gave up after the goal, just sat back and were just pathetic.
How many 1-0s has that been now?

Best we can hope for is regional rivalry and playing for pride. Impression I get is they are largely mates these days, though the Saudis find the Egyptian Arabic accent hilarious.Samba wrote:You wait 'til Saudi Arabia v Egypt..what is the f***ing point..

That is what they do. It is not everybody's cup of tea and it is not my cup of tea either, but they do it and they do it rather well. It's Allardyce type stuff, but they have tremendous team spirit, definitely play for each other and their manager and they are one helluva well drilled cohesive unit who deny the other team space and they are ****ing difficult to beatrare as rockinghorse shat wrote:It's not the poor teams that's doing it, Samba. It's why there's a deep split among Uruguayans on Tabarez. Some embrace the strategy of playing the percentages, many find it frustrating and dismal.Puff Daddy wrote: That is what they do. The 'lesser' teams are doing the best that they can.
The 'better' teams are content to go 1-0 up & then just kill the game.
My comment was just feeling sorry for SA & E. Nothing to play for in their last game. Must feel quite soul-destroying for the players.
Still, a World Cup game is a World Cup game & a chance to put yourself in 'the shop window'.

I think the lesser teams really are stinking the place up lets be honest Saudi Arabia and Peru are the exceptions

I think this will become to norm for group stage international football especially with the expanded formats. At the last Euro’s all the lesser teams were playing for the 0-0 in the hope of making the last 16 as a best placed 3rd place.D C wrote:I think the lesser teams really are stinking the place up lets be honest Saudi Arabia and Peru are the exceptions
I get the idea of involving more countries sounds nice but in reality the quality of the competition nose dives as a result.

I'm not sure why people are coating off the "lesser teams", Saudi Arabia seemed to be trying to make a go of it. Uruguay are supposed to be one of the big names but could only manage a 1-0.
