Messi best player in the world?

The difference between him and Ronaldo is Messi needs good players around him. Ronaldo has proved time and again for Portugal he wins things by himslef.

I have seen Messi win hundreds of games by himself and Ronaldo is not playing for Real Madrid with ten other **** players,

But that quote exactly applies to Ronaldo as well. You think all teams don't think stop Ronaldo, stop Portugal?

I'm talking at international level

Ronaldo is a giant both domestically and nationally. Messi only domestically.

That was brilliant. Croatia have one of the best midfields, if not the best, in the world.

Messi the petulant child stormed straight down the tunnel, no class. He should try and drag Argentina to a title like Ronaldo did with a poor to average Portugal side.

Yet they both have 1 in 2 goals ratio internationally :eh:

It’s not just numbers though, is it. It’s almost pointless to compare Ronaldo and Messi on that level because they both score such ludicrous numbers of goals. The differentiator now has to be their leadership and ability to drag their side to victory. We just haven’t seen that from Messi at this Cup, but we’ve certainly seen it from Ronaldo.

Messi is surrounded by quality players but doesn’t seem to know how to make his team ignite the way Ronaldo does.

I’d say Messi has generally played with better players too.

Ronaldo is relentless and just drags that Portugal team over the line. Messi sulks, storms off down the tunnel, he even retired from international football briefly when he sulked after they lost a Copa America final.

Although Ronaldo didn’t play in the Euro final, or most of it anyhow.

It's perhaps more relevant to compare him to Modric...?
Messi was quite static throughout the game; he wasn't in the flow of his own side at all. He has seemingly lost a bit of pace, but hadn't made up for it in other ways.
Modric was mobile and constanly involved; harrasing for the ball; linking up; totally in the flow of the team.

I thought that was an extra from Shameless who had somehow wandered into a Russian football stadium by mistake.

Dragged his team there and is dragging them through this group stage too. 4 goals in 2 games.

An unusually undisciplined performance from Argentina. Defended for the final goal like a Sunday league team - all standing on the edge of the box with their hands in the air!

Shame, really...

That final goal reminded me a bit of one Man City scored against us last season.

Missed the game due to work, had a feeling it was going to be a good one.....

Have said on here many times, watching Modric play for Real Madrid is a treat. I would hope that we could employ Lazini in that type of role.. Get your best players the ball often. Applies to American basketball and football. They are the ones who will win you games...there's artists and water carriers !!!!!

:)

We don't use Lanzini enough, don't get him involved enough, well not since Payet left....

Ronaldo has what’s called a defence behind him

Messi carries Argentina to the final 4 years ago

Ronaldo carried Portugal to the euro final

Portugal could win it without him.. the argies couldn’t

Simple as that.

Eh? Are people trying to argue that, man for man, the Portugal squad is stronger than Argentina’s?

Portugal are as average as you like without Ronaldo, but they are a good workman like 'team'

The same could not be said about Argentina, who have a squad of very talented players, but as a collective they are awful.
