Re: VAR, For or against
Yes but not how it was used in the Portugal game.
It should be used to stop players rolling around not encourage it.

No in it's current form (but the conspiracy nutjog in me says that's what FIFA wants)

Re: VAR, For or against
Yes! Tonight there was a bad decision awarding Iran a pen, but a good decision giving Spain a goal - ironically at the same time.
The biggest issue is the referees using it!
Clearly things need to be tweaked to make it better but we have to persevere with it now to iron out the cracks.
Personally I’d go the cricket route and allow a team 1 review per game (or half), if successful they keep it. The ref can also ask to review things he is unsure of. The review and decision is taken away from the on field ref to the video ref so players/managers/fans can’t influence the decision. The video ref is on a microphone and the audio is played to the crowd and TV so the decision can be understood.

Draining the joy and spontaneity from games and encouraging an insidious culture of diving, play-acting and haranguing referees.

Yes!
It works in rugby and has sorted out a lot of poor decisions so far. FIFA's process is a mess, but hey 'tis FIFA!

Re: VAR, For or against
Thing was for the Spain goal there was a possible foul on a Moroccan player before Spain won the corner (20 secs or so) and took the corner quickly. So because the ball went out of play and the match restarted no review of the build up just the offside element. Which was correctly given.aaronhammer wrote:Yes! Agreed but who do you use If the fully qualified match officials don't understand the laws of the game and can't be trusted?aaronhammer wrote:The biggest issue is the referees using it!
It seems as though FIFA have deliberately gone out of their way to ignore the way it's used in American Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis etc and by hiding the decision making from the public all they've done is cause more controversyaaronhammer wrote:The video ref is on a microphone and the audio is played to the crowd and TV so the decision can be understood.

Re: VAR, For or against
Absolutely Yes, it's a tool that if used correctly can make the game fairer and deter a lot of diving and ugly off the ball fouls, however, it should be used consistently and not in the arbitrary way it's being used in this world cup.

Rugby is naturally stop and start though, and the game itself has less cheating as far as I'm aware.
In its current form, the concept of VAR is not fit for purpose, I'd be all for it, if it could genuinely help the game.
From what I have seen so far though, it's a long, long way off.

Re: VAR, For or against
Yes, for now.
It doesn’t work, But, it should !
It should be worked with for the next 5 years to find the best way to use it.
It should evolve over that time. If it can’t find a useable consensus then bin it.
But to bin it now would be shortsighted.
The technology isn’t the problem, it’s the people using it.
