#54 Belgium 3-2 Japan - Round of 16
I fear for Japan in this one. Lukaku will absolutely slaughter the poor little Japs defence
Re: Belgium v Japan - Round of 16~ Match thread
Japan have some lovely technical players, they are all good footballers but they are too small, not physical enough, only hope is the Japan manager can outsmart Martinez

That would probably account for the fact you don't find many Japanese basketball playersfmgod wrote:Japan have some lovely technical players, they are all good footballers but they are too small, not physical enough, only hope is the Japan manager can outsmart Martinez

I know there have been some shocks but it's very hard to see anything other than a routine Belgium win.

Belgium are susceptible to a wobble if you get at them and that's how you should play against them - they lack b*llocks.
That's what Japan will do. Whether Belgium weather it and outgun them, remains to be seen.

I've got Japan in my office sweepstake, so I'm hoping for the surprises to continue. Not expecting anything, but hoping.

Tbh, I can't see Japan being able to handle Lukaku for the entire match. And Fellaini for that matter. There's a big mismatch in size and physicality.

If the Belgians didn’t have such a gash manager I’d fancy them to go all the way.

They still might. Know what you mean about Bobby Brown shoes, but one to eleven, they have the best team thereSullySpecial wrote:If the Belgians didn’t have such a gash manager I’d fancy them to go all the way.

2 poor national anthems. Japan must be happy to have Senegalese refereeing team. What would someone from Senegal have to be annoyed about?

I think Japan's national anthem is absolutely lovely. So Japanese, it couldn't be anything else. Belgium's on the other hand ...WCpete wrote:2 poor national anthems. Japan must be happy to have Senegalese refereeing team. What would someone from Senegal have to be annoyed about?

I do think it's lovely, actually. It just doesn't get the adrenaline pumping before football matches.
