If you are the goalkeeper, you watch in which direction the penalty taker plants his standing foot. That is usually a very valuable and accurate pointer to where he will place his shot. If he is right footed, he will almost certainly run up in a slight arc, slightly from his left and place his standing foot pointing slightly to the left. If so, the shot will go to your right. If he is left footed, it will be the same, only to your left. Some, but not many, run straight up to the ball face on. These are more difficult to judge. Powerful shots high and to either your left or right are normally unsaveable form only 12 yards, but not many penalty takers take that risk

Also if you're the keeper you make sure you take a step forward illegally for each penalty. A lesson young Pickford has worked out. Like Southgate said - We're playing by the laws the rest of world play by now
