Penalties - What do you do?

Post by Row X »

Just got into work, and the amount of people that said "I didn't watch them, I just waited for the reactions of others" or similar, amazed me.

So quick question...

Are you a watcher or a turn-awayer?

I'm a watcher.

I put the TV on mute, and closed my eyes as they were about to take it.

I have no idea why, I'm just not very good in high pressure situations.

I watch but understand those who don't. My mate went into the beer garden, heard the roar and ran in celebrating thinking we'd won when Pickford had saved their 5th. He then had to watch through his hands as Dier stepped up.

I tried to walk out the pub when Henderson missed but my mate held onto me. Glad he did.

I sit calmly through all of them, only reacting to the decisive penalty.

There's not point cursing a missed one of your own, or cheering a scored one of your own, as things literally change within 3 kicks.

When that last one went in, I screamed so hard I genuinely hurt my anus.

Calmly said ffs when Henderson missed. Cheered like I won the lottery when they missed both and for some reason was extremely calm when Dier scored his, I think I was just so relieved.

Although I think my poor dog was a bit frightened, he had no idea why I was randomly raising my voice, looked at me like I was crazy. I did try to reassure him that it was in fact coming home.

My dog just stays upstairs whenever the football is on, he cannot deal with full range of emotions I go through when watching West Ham/England.

I was watching it at a giant screen fan zone in Lausanne, Switzerland, with about 300 or so noisy and good-natured Colombians, a couple of hundred Anglos and a few hundred neutrals.

I was definitely a watcher, albeit from behind the fingers of my hands - I wouldn't be able to not watch it.

Have to say that the Colombia fans where I was certainly won in the unofficial good-looking ladies competition on the night too.

I watch. Shifting constantly back and forth from standing to sitting, swearing constantly, while keeping close attention to the look in the players eyes before he kicks.

I predicted Dier would miss the deciding pen as soon as he came on.

My lack of perceptiveness astounds me sometimes.

I wasn't confident when Rashford stepped up, and feared the worst. His was a superb pen from such a young lad.

I said Henderson would miss as soon as I saw him doing keepy uppy...

I also said they would miss the target with one by smashing it too hard but was amendment that Bacca would score when he stepped up... love watching it all back on ITV player now that I know the outcome.

Was remarkably successful when Chicharito was playing for us. I confidently predicted he'd never score another goal for us, and he proved me wrong 3 times - once within 30 seconds of me hitting Submit.
