Maybe so... but we won the world cup (Claim)

Post by The_Dead_Ball »

With England having their best chance of actually winning the world cup got me thinking about our claim of West Ham winning the world cup.
For years now we argue the fact etc etc but if say England wins and say if Kane scores a hat trick in the final does that mean we can no longer make claim to it anymore? definitively with any discussions on the subject with Spurs would be pointless?

Are we prepare to lose that claim?

Gordon Bennett. If Spurs provide the goalscorers and captain, they have the same right to make the claim that we do. And I don't understand why anyone would mind. If they want to make their claim to the Cup, they legitamise ours after decades of denial. Frankly it's a win/win as far as I'm concerned.

I want us to win the World Cup nearly as much as I want us to win another FA Cup, and I don't care how we achieve either.

We wouldn't lose it though, it'd still be true (from a certain claret and blue perspective ;)) that we won the World Cup in '66. We'd have to except them saying they'd won it in 2018. I can live with that. We can then turn our attention to the northern clubs and accuse them of not having won anything for England and therefore being unpatriotic England haters.

We won domestic and European trophies in the two previous seasons, thus qualifying us to compete in and win the World Cup (especially as I don't think there was a World Club Cub back then?). That's my logic anyway...

However, I think it will be hilarious if Kane et al can win more with England than their club.

They could give it a go if England win but they will need to provide the Capt who wins player of the tournament, score all the goals, provide two assists, and be academy into first team players.
Last bit isn't going to be easy as none of their players were 100% Spurs youth players.

Grown up men actually saying 'West Ham won the World Cup' without a hint of sarcasm.

Makes me shudder and cringe.

West Ham clearly made the single biggest club contribution to England's greatest hour.

If you were in a pub and said that, I'd say 'yep'.

If you said 'West Ham won the World Cup', I'd put on a Springboks jersey, blow a flob filled raspberry in your face and laugh hard as you tell all your mates how you're gonna arm bar me in a minute.

I never said I was anything other than completely powerless to do anything beyond try to ignore him. The bloke was f*cking huge, as you'd expect from an SA international #8, and surrounded by the rest of the team (who were actually very nice blokes, who seemed faintly appalled by Joe's behaviour).

Still, I'm sure you'd have pushed his sh*t in, eh.

We won it first.

I get the feeling we will come close but win nothing.
It's the Tottenham way.

The one truly unique and prestigious thing about this club is what happened on one afternoon in 1966.

Being the only one(s) to have ever achieved something is so much more than just winning.

Doesn’t matter because we’re not going to win the World Cup this year

Wouldn’t be far off the 80 FA Cup run if we do :)
