Look at the start of this video:
https://www.clippituser.tv/c/ypyvqn

Both arms up in the air. How is that being used to jump? Not sure you can push yourself up if your arms are up anyway.

Compare his arms to where Fernandes has his here:

Cheating and incompetent officialdom is a shortcut to success in so many endeavours.
Shame.

For me and many others, no penalty. You can say our language is wide of the mark.

What makes you more right in your assessment than us ? Because the penalty was given ?

When the ball hit Vida his arms were at his side. Natural position. How the bloody hell can you (or anyone) jump and keep your arms at your side. It ISN'T unnatural for your arms to be away from your side when you jump. Try it some time.
My point is that the language should at least be moderated to dubious. The deliberate movement of the arm is key and to the naked eye, that looks like a deliberate movement of the arm.

To me it's not about right or wrong. It's the justification. If I was to cede ground on my opinion is that the penalty might be dubious at best. I simply don't believe the referee was without justification to award it.

That's just the end of the jump so that isn't conclusive to me...you need both arms to jump. Arms away from his side. Ball hits him. Does his arm go toward the ball ?

Not to my mind. In which case it isn't a penalty.

moves his hand toward the ball ? Not in a million years. on his way down. again - Hand to ball or ball to hand...

My mind it's the latter. No penalty.

But they scored two other excellent goals so they won fairly and squarely. We're not arguing the match winning goal so I am not saying they didn't deserve to win. But it opened up a gap which had an influence on Croatia's tactical plan as the game wore on.

You can see the from second angle that both of his arms are up before his foot leaves the floor...

Not above your head you don't.

Arms away from his side makes him bigger, gaining an advantage if it hits him and the ref doesn't call it.

His arm goes down to meet the ball. If his arms aren't as high as he puts them, they would be out of the way before the ball reaches him.

My final post on the World Cup threads and I think the perfect way to end it. Wonderful touch of pure class from Kolinda Grabic- Kolarovic the President of Croatia. Smiles, hugs and kisses for every single player, Croatian and French. Terrific stuff

It means good luck in Russia when it rains as you are leaving. Brilliant football tornament loved that final had it all.

Everything except an England world cup final win. Maybe one day I’ll see one, especially painful when the French have now seen 2 in past 20 years.
