After weeks of speculation, it now finally appears that Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh will stay at the Ligue 1 champions and snub the advances of West Ham.
A report in L’Equipe this morning suggests Chamakh will make his announcement to stay at Bordeaux next Monday. However, the French newspaper does suggest that if West Ham bid eight million euros for the Moroccan striker, the Hammers could still get their man.
Chamakh is quoted in L’Equipe: "My departure is more and more unlikely. I am pessimistic and have moved on to other things. The door is closed and I will announce on Monday that I will stay."
It now seems likely that Chamakh will see out his contract at Bordeaux which expires at the end of the 2009/2010 season. He will now be able to negotiate with other clubs from next January.
The 25-year-old striker also said: "Today I feel more liberated. I said I wanted to leave after one title, now I will leave after two!"
