Gutted for deano
Gotta wish him the best in whatever he does from now on, just such a shame because he had so much potentual, he realy could have turned out to be a great centre forward.

Re: sunday's gossip includes west ham
I haven't been this depressed about West Ham since the 4-3 defeat to Spurs in 2007. Sorry if anyone thinks that's a knee-jerk reaction, given that we have a 100% record in the league thus far but this morning's headlines have cast a massive dark cloud over me.

Aside from the doom, a pleasing little article on Cole. Nice to hear him becoming more ambitious and professional.

Re: sunday's gossip includes west ham
Tottenham want to build on their flying start to the season by adding Joe Cole and David Wheater to their squad.
England midfield player Cole is in the last year of his contract and as yet has not agreed a new deal.
At 27, he is, in his words, approaching ìthe best five years of his career. That career was interrupted by a serious knee injury suffered in January in an FA Cup replay at Southend. He is progressing towards fitness but insists he will not be back until he is 100 per cent ready.
The comeback is being monitored by Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp. He knows Cole well. He signed him at West Ham and gave his debut when he was only 17.
Redknapp wants to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month and Cole is high on his wish list.
The fee will be around 10 million for Cole who can leave on a free transfer at the end of the season if Chelsea cannot agree a new contract with him.
Wheater would increase Tottenhamís defensive options. The 22-year-old Middlesbrough centre back has been the subject of checks by England manager Fabio Capello who has him as a potential full international.
Middlesbrough would be reluctant to sell but a bid close to the 10 million mark could tempt them to sell. Redknapp has Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate injured while Ledley King is involved in a constant battle with a knee injury that has plagued him throughout his career.
To balance the books, Pascal Chimbonda could move to Hull as manager Phil Brown looks to halt the Humberside teamís disasterous start to the season while Jermaine Jenas is a target for Aston Villa.

You are overreacting, regarding the insurance comments. Two players are set to end their careers in tragic circumstances. We are now two more players down, and don't have a pot to piss in. I don't see the problem with the comments. We have to replace them, and the only way we can do so, is with insurance money from the two players.
It's like people are jumping for joy at getting insurance money is it?

Its neither 'touchy' nor an 'over-reaction' to be unhappy about discussing the financial implications of a player having a leg amputated - on the day that life-changing decision is made.
Does everything have to be up for discussion straight away?

Who on here has celebrated the prospect FFS? Seriously...
I doubt anyone is happy, we are two players down, and it's in very sad circumstances. Everyone will be as unhappy as everyone else. But it's wrong to jump down the throats of anyone who mentioned it.

Re: sunday's gossip includes west ham
I wasn't suggesting anyone was jumping for joy, merely pointing out that we could allow some time to pass before discussing insurance policies and who we could get in with the money. I'm sure some people are thinking about this, but let's allow a bit of time before we voice such concerns. Transfer funds (or lack thereof) have not been based on a forecast that included the likelihood of two players ending their careers prematurely. Off to the game now, let's hope we can win this one for Calum and his mum.il_martello_di_genovesi wrote:You are overreacting, regarding the insurance comments. Ok, fair enough. I'm sure the only thoughts from the people who mentioned it, is that it's the only way to replace them. That's not a nasty comment at all. It's not like anyone has said, let's go on a spree with the money.

Interesting to find out if the people complaining are allowed to read the Sun, Star or News of the World in work?

Re: sunday's gossip includes west ham
The way i see it i expressed my sympathies and genuine sorrow for Davenport on the thread dedicated to him. They were my genuine feelings on the matter and it is a terrible terrible thing to have happened.
I just didn't think the original question with regards to insurance was meant with any malice and it is a fair point. I also thought this thread was far more appropriate for that sort of discussion at this time than the thread specifically for him.
But if people think that is wrong then fair enough.
Good luck Calum, good luck West Ham.
