My Mrs has a Sun plus subscription for the free kids day out tickets and stuff, so I've C&P's the Bilic article. The Sun wrote:SLAVEN BILIC has been told to secure a top-eight finish in his first season as West Ham boss.
And the ex-Hammers star has agreed he will be sacked without a penny in compensation if the club get relegated.
Owner David Sullivan said: “Slaven knows what is expected of him. He gets no bonus unless we finish top eight or above. He has accepted that.
“We also insisted he agrees to being sacked with no pay-off if we get relegated.
“If he utterly fails, it’s his responsibility. But Bilic sees this as his big chance and has an amazingly positive attitude.”
Bilic, 46, accepted the terms as part of a three-year deal, with Sullivan detailing the task facing his rookie Premier League coach while also revealing ex-Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez was THREE HOURS from taking the job.
Sullivan added: “We spoke to several coaches ahead of Slaven and had everything sorted out with Rafa.
“Then he got a call from Real Madrid and called to say sorry but he was going there, as it was his dream.
“But Slaven should not feel bad that he wasn’t first choice. In fact, he has told us he will prove that he should have been. You can’t argue with that.”

DAVID SULLIVAN has rewritten his will after what he describes as ‘the most stressful month of my life’.
So when he says he expects to be in charge of West Ham until the day he dies — it raises more questions than answers.
The Hammers joint-chairman, alongside pal David Gold, is the most vocal in the boardroom and remains breathless after scouring Europe for a fourth manager in six years in Slaven Bilic.
But he is still searching the world for players to fill the dressing room ahead of a crucial season in the club’s history.
This time next year West Ham will be unpacking boxes and moving into the 54,000-seater Olympic Stadium as they attempt to challenge London rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
Some see it as trying to turn the capital’s biggest working-class club into a major player while others suspect the project is a long-term plan to grab hold of a world-class stadium at little cost then flog West Ham to the next wannabe foreign owner in the queue.
But Sullivan said: “We want to challenge the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea. We are moving into a ground with a massive capacity like the Emirates Stadium but we are selling our tickets a lot cheaper than they do.
“Unlike them, we don’t have the ranks of corporate fans to plough money into the club.
“We expect to have 40-45,000 season ticket holders in the Olympic Stadium but that won’t bring in nearly as much cash as Arsenal get.
“If the King of Saudi Arabia, I use that term loosely, or another serious investor wanted to buy West Ham, then we’d step aside for the good of the club. Like at Manchester City.
“But I’m fed up with fake sheikhs — and we’re not sellers.
“We wouldn’t hand it over to some cowboy Russian or Chinese investor who just wants a quick buck.
“I rewrote my will last week so that, in time, my 51 per cent stake will be handed to my two sons, Jack and David. I fully expect to be in charge of West Ham until the day I die.
“Myself and David Gold were in charge of Birmingham for 17 years and we’re not even from Birmingham. We are West Ham people.”
New boss Bilic inherits a job far more newsworthy than it should be.
West Ham is a club which punches far above its weight in terms of controversy and opinion.
His predecessor, Sam Allardyce, was always at odds with the elusive legend of the so-called ‘West Ham way’ — which harks back to the club providing three of the England 1966 World Cup-winning team, and playing attractive football.
That has pretty much evaded them ever since. For most, it really means regular relegations, occasional triumphs over the big teams and trying to nurture, to best advantage, the football fanaticism that exists in the East End.
Sullivan and Gold want Bilic to rekindle old glories and yesterday appointed genuine Upton Park legend Julian Dicks to his coaching staff to help.
Sullivan added: “I’m always excited but nervous at this time of year.
“West Ham is not a normal club. It has traded on its history, on the beliefs of the fans and its heritage.
“What we want to do is make more history for West Ham over the next five years or so.
“Bringing in Julian Dicks means we now have two men on the coaching side who have a deep understanding of the club.
“This will be a transition season. What we are looking for is the best possible finish in the Premier League and a good cup run — whether that be in Europe or at home.”
Allardyce left West Ham after four years in May. The club was in much better shape than when he arrived but he was still baffled by the romantic attachments of the supporters.
Sullivan revealed: “Sam told me this time last year that he was tired.
“He said he had the toughest and most stressful job in the world being a football manager.
“He did a great job for us but our form after Christmas was three wins in 23 matches — that’s relegation form.
“The parting was very amicable. After a rest, I’m sure he will get a job somewhere else; either a club struggling or pushing for promotion, and do a fantastic job.
“Managers do have stress — but they also get a break. Chairmen don’t and this club will probably be the death of me.”
Europa League Could Kill Us
THE Europa League could ‘kill’ West Ham, admits David Sullivan.
But the Hammers co-chairman insists he had no choice but to put the team into the much-maligned competition with the first game just 48 hours away.
West Ham play Andorran minnows FC Lusitanos in a qualifying round and must play 23 matches to get to the final next May — and the possibility of Champions League qualification.
Sullivan said: “It will kill us if we go all the way. Look at how English teams have struggled to cope in the past with the schedule of Thursday and Sunday games.
But if we hadn’t gone in for it we’d have been castigated. And we have been vindicated because we’re expecting a crowd of around 30,000 on Thursday night. What more do you need to know?
“The game will be a chance for the fans to welcome new boss Slaven Bilic back to the club and, for us, the Europa League will give us a meaningful pre-season.
“Better a game like this than a meaningless friendly at Ipswich, although we’ll have half the team out because those who played every game last season still need another week off.”
