I think until G&S&B take fans to the stadium it will be hard to tell how good/bad the view is. Hopefully they be able to mark out the pitch so we can get a real idea. I'd be surprised if that sand box is the full extent of the pitch.

Someone on the Skyscraper City forum knocked up a graphic from the original plans with a football pitch.

However, where is our £95m going? I'm pretty sure that by spreading the seating out to change the capacity from 80k to 60k is not going to eat up all that cash.

Keep the running track - that was what I was hearing in this legacy argument. Did they say anything about the long jump pits and other stuff which are also going outside the running track? Are they planning to bid for athletics World Cups etc which would mean we need to keep that? I suspect so. Either way, we can always suck up the sand and dump metal plates in them to cope with the weight of retractable seating.

We need to know these things. Only then can we understand what is going to happen. For £95m they could destroy the lower tier of seating and put in retractable seating which reaches the pitch, or at least get 10m from the action at worst, but which can also be retracted back to hold athletics events.

By the way, Skyscraper City has a nearly-3000 post thread on the Olympic Stadium.

Lack of an extended roof and exective boxes.

Doesn't look awful. Stick an extended roof on there, with the floodlights under it, you'd have a pretty amazing stadium....

In that picture (won't quote it, the one with the 5 people at the front) the stands appear a lot steeper then in other pictures

The upper tier certainly does. When you compare it to the West Ham released picture, where the lower tier is the same sort of height and steepness of the upper tier. Something that's quite evidently not the case at the moment.

Preparing for a new lower tier maybe?

Something like that, with the rugby posts being our goals....

Looking at the computer generated image again, the pitch is the full length of that 100m straight area (with room for sprinters to slow down), which is obviously longer than 100m.

Has anyone got any idea how long that straight is?

Manchester United's pitch is the biggest in the Premier League (106m by 76m), Upton Park currently is 100m by 64m.

I'd be interested to see how long that would make the pitch in the picture...

HammerMan2004 in answer to your question the International Rugby Board dimensions for a pitch can be no more than 100m in length and the in-goal areas can be no less than 10m and no more than 22m. The width must be no more than 70m. The cast iron dimension is the 22 metre line but there can be some variations to the halfway line.

From looking at the picture I would guesstimate that the pitch including the in-goal is 110m. If it was at the maximum allowed it would be 144m.

That mock up definately overlaps the running track at the ends/corners.

It also appears to confirm the approximate dimensions in my pitch size thread.

Got to say that the panels at the very back of the stand will get smashed to bits by away fans if they are not replaced with something more sturdier.
