Winter World Cup

Post by LondonTaxpayer »

What impact does a winter world cup in 2022 have on West Ham? The 2022/23 Premier League season is predicted to run from early July 2022 to late June 2023 but how does that work with terms of the lease and UK Athletics' summer use?

We get an extension of 3 weeks in July and a similar extension in the following June. And get those seats moving!

More interesting is what happens in August 2017 when world athletics plays out in August.

The world athletics champs are from Aug 5-13 meaning the stadium could be back in football mode for Saturday 19 August. If the premier league starts on the weekend of 12/13 then obviously it means an away fixture for West Ham and no pre-season home match.

As for 2022 I assume athletics may move there fixtures a week or two earlier. By that time I would expect the changeover from track to cricket to pitch mode to have been well honed in with conversion time down to the absolute minimum.

I think I read somewhere that once, as you suggest, they are practiced the will be able to get the seating turned around in 48hrs
