We are no Kopites

Post by @TFSH_WHUFC »

Why on earth do the club keep referring to the new East Stand as The Kop, we are not Liverpool or even Sheffield Wednesday who have stands named after the battles in South Africa that local soldiers were involved in etc.....etc......

It makes us look plastic and I for one will never refer to it as The Kop.

Now that the away supporters are located once again in the South Bank like they were when I was a kid means the North Bank will be once again all West Ham which feels a bit more like the past era's, however in my mind I think the retractable seating going in in the East Stand should still be called the Chicken Run and the stand just referred to as The East Stand, or even better The Billy Bonds Stand :scarfer:

South Stand is now TB Stand and North Stand is now BM Stand leaving West Stand left as corporate naming.

With the stadium naming likely to be something like "Abu Dhabi Group" Stadium what do us supporters refer to it as, MCFC call their Eastlands.................................

Just Thoughts.......................

I, for one, will take to referring to it as the Claret Wall...

Some way to go to compete with the Gelbe Wand Sudtribune!

for now it will be referred to as the Olympic stadium, all depends on the sponsor though..arsenals is the emirates!

as for the kop argument...I agree...it sounds like were kop-ying (apologies), the scousers...I don't like it...I would much prefer the "chicken run"...despite it bearing no resemblance to the original

just want to note, as it always makes me laugh, that man city have a stand called the "colin bell stand",...affectionately known as the bell end....

Hasn't it been confirmed that each Stand will be named after a West Ham legend?

I'll be referring to it by whichever legend gets the honour.

I don't think the club have referred to it as The Kop. I think they have said it will be a Kop style stand. But I agree it would be naff if it got known as that.

We were discussing this the other day. Even now we have the old Upton Park/ Boleyn debate, but it will be even more confusing when we move. I think the current official title is the Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which is a bit of a mouthful, so I see the current options as:

The Olympic Stadium
Stratford
Olympic Park
Queen Elizabeth Park
Lizzy Park, (like all Eastenders have called Victoria Park, Vicky Park)
Sponsored name

At present, when I talk I tend to refer to the new stadium as "Stratford", but when writing I tend to type OS as the obvious abbreviation.

In regards to naming rights, sometimes it can be hard for a sponsored name to stick when a stadium has had an existing name. Everyone knows Ashburton Grove Stadium as the Emirates as it was the name of the Stadium when the doors opened, but you would always call Liverpool's ground Anfield even if they sell the naming rights. To further complicate things, I still refer to Huddersfield's ground as McAlpines even though it has been renamed since.

Are you sure there's one at Wednesday? There's a Kop behind the goal at Bramall Lane.

The first Kop, (as in a terrace referred to as that), is believed to be at Arsenal's ground, (before they moved North).

Not the Kop.

It's the Chicken Supreme for me.

Should attract sponsorship from Knorr's, if nothing else.

All born out of saying its a Kop style stand. No one in their right mind thinks it's going to be called the kop though.

Things get taken far too literally & we wonder why animosity builds
