The Guardians Daniel Taylor on the Boleyn
A bit naughty of me but I felt this fantastic piece by the Guardians Daniel Taylor deserves it's own thread for a few hours anyway, probably move it into the farewell thread then .It has I think one factual error, but I'll forgive him that for his well observed remark on the carpet in the Boleyn .He obviously never knew the Wakefield ,
It's starting to feel very real now the Fleet Street heavy weights are doing articles on our home .

Re: The Guardians Daniel Taylor on the Boleyn
people will say we're losing our home, but the stone truth is all those businesses that are going to go under only exist because of match days. the support have all either fled, upgraded or have been turfed out over the generations and green street on a match day is an artifically preserved piece of recreated history that doesn't really exist for the other 13 days a fortnight. we're not the pride of the community, most locals just think we're a nuisance.
the ground itself is hallowed turf, but it feels like an alamo in a place where most are counting down the days till we're gone.
that's not to say stratford will be an improvement. the area around the OS feels like the world's biggest airport terminal bolted to a bombsite, but I'd love to think that in a generation the ground will be surrounded by a community as proud of the club as we all are.

Just came in here to post this, Pinky beat me to it. A good read. Doesn't really feel like 'progress' when it is set out like in the article.

Pity the writer doesn't know his postal districts.
'' a lifetime of memories from London E3 to another postal district.''

Ripped off the BBC podcast from last week if you ask me.

That is the thing about these lost grounds:People underestimate sometimes what they mean to the local community.
The last line of this article is spot on.
But the new 'fans' Brady wants to attract wouldn't understand it and they will be as Soulless as the rented athletics Stadium

Re: The Guardians Daniel Taylor on the Boleyn
On a superficial level it is OK but it's not exactly offering anything new as far as the West Ham content is concerned.
