Re: What do we call the Stadium?..
In my head, it is always the first sponsor, especially if it is named after the sponsor at the opening. I still, accidentally, refer to Bolton's stadium as the Reebok. I also never called Newcastle or Orient's stadium by the then sponsored name.frankiemac wrote:its the olympic stadium isnt it, until the sponsor comes in
arsenal was ashburton grove prior to being called the emirates
man city was eastlands, city of manchester stadium and is now the etihad...
boltons reebok is now the macron!
Because of the history of the Olympic Stadium, I think I will always refer to it as the OS, in the printed medium, and Stratford in the spoken word. I already say things like; "When we move to Stratford, or "I wonder what it will be like going over Stratford next year". I don't think I will ever use any sponsor's name.

If we get into Europe then for any such matches it will have to be known by its formal name: "The Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park", as sponsor named stadium are not allowed. Even the Emirates has to be referred to as Ashburton Grove!

If we're not allowed to use "The Olympic Stadium" due to copyright then why not simply "The Olympic Park Stadium"??
Once there's a sponsor it can slot right in:
