Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundGood thread.
I suspect I'm going to really miss standing (something I don't think has been mentioned yet). unless some miracle occurs as everyone I'm around also wants to stand and the stewards don't kick off, I feel I will have to learn to sing sitting down in the west upper. I'm not sure how easy a transisition. I'm 33, so my memory of the old ground is limited. By first game was in the wooden seats in the west upper. I believe thee old stadium shop was there but I couldn't say for sure. As has been said, it's everything, from the minute u step off the tube all the way through. It's a day out not just always about the match. Went to watch Brighton vs Leeds recently. 4-0 Brighton. The stadium is modern, comfortable, lovely to the eye. And completely lack in any personality. I hope that's not us in 6 months time
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn Groundwont miss
the bar staff - absolute lemons the lot of them trolleys of beer being pulled through the east lower at half time when the bars at its busiest queues at UP the smell of every toilet the broken clocks will miss everything else quick question will we be taking MR MOON with us to the OS ?? i hope so
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundI managed to get in the chicken run on Saturday. The last time I stood in there was 31 March 1986 when we beat Spurs 2-1. I have had a season ticket in the North Bank and then BML since. It was truly amazing to visit the remaining part of the old stadium. I have to admit to having watery eyes as Bonzo spoke at half time and the BML broke into Oh Billy-Billy.
I will never forget the good old days. I was very anti the move to the OS for a while but I have come to accept it. The club have got it right with the pricing as has been demonstrated by the terrific season ticket sales. I for one will be doing my bit to try and transfer the old atmosphere to the new ground. The other thing I will miss is night cup games. Can't wait for tomorrow COYI!
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundWon't miss;
the toilets in the BML, the luke warm coffee the time it takes to get on a train. the utter nut job that stands in front of my nephew [always got one eye on him in case he goes postal] Will miss; standing [sitting down to watch football is just wrong] knowing were I am going and where everything is [I don't really like change] everything else
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn Ground
Apparently not, 3 of the fire safety guys were in the BML on Wednesday and I asked. The newer grounds use ear piece communication and not a code.
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundI'll also miss hearing Gary Firmager ring out, "Get your Over Land and Sea, latest issue" every time I walk down Green St. Shame he's not carrying that on really, but times change. Really did help to add to my match-day experience though.
Always enjoyed the thought of the West Ham being "old school" and very unique. I guess we won't have that in August, with us going the same way as Arsenal. I'll miss the atmosphere around the place on a night game.
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundI won't miss the sh*t facilities, lack of staff/bars in the TBL and poor options of food and drink.
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundI'll miss the 15 minute walk to and from games.
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundI miss the peanut seller
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundWas thinking about this on Wednesday night as it's likely to be my last visit to the old place.
Some odd ones came to mind... There's the view out of one of the round port-hole windows above the urinals in the BMU, it's straight down Castle Street and the wave of claret and blue surging down the street 56 minutes before kick-off is a sight. The pork-rolls with apple sauce from the excellent van just inside the car-park gates. Standing by the excellent pork-roll van just inside the gates munching their wares and sipping a can of lager and watching the crowds pass-by. Sometimes Walk down Green Street from Forest Gate, and there's a point where it curves, just about Woodstock Road / Khana Khazania restaurant, where you catch sight of the stand roof and lights for the first time and that surge of excitement comes.
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundWont miss driving to the ground and trying to park. Trains for me from next year!
Also become 60 so free!! Will miss having nobody behind me with standing not really an issue currently..... ![]()
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundWon't miss - Local area
Will miss - Nothing
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundAs an away fan, I will miss visiting a Premier League ground that reminds me of Maine Road in terms of the stands, atmosphere and environment.
As a local, I won't miss having to plan journeys in to central London around kick off times. The roads are gridlocked and the tubes too busy.

Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn GroundQUESTION (Didnt know where to post this but put it on here ) Does anyone know when the last day the old ground will be open for business before it closes for good?
Re: what you will miss and wont miss about The Boleyn Ground i wont miss
The queue at upton park station on the way home. The queue to collect your tickets on match day. Paying £75 to watch Man City. I will miss The walk up to the ground on match day The Boleyn pub The memories of walking through the turnstiles and being in awe of seeing that pitch every time. The trevor brooking lower and east stand giving the away fans grief all game. And most of all....... Joey o brien.
