We'll have to agree to disagree.
I'm not sure the comparison with Clarke and Kohli is really relevant, the first wasn't good enough, and the second, however good, has an ego the size of a small planet.
I'm not having a go at Root( though I think the captaincy has come to him a year or so too early) he's clearly a world-class batsman,I'd just move him to 3 ,hoik out Vince, move up everyone, and bring back the prodigal son.

Vince get into form?

He hit 84 in his first innings and got in numerous times since. It is not his "form" that is the problem, it is his brain. He is not a Test player, he doesn't have the mental capacity.

Its a great start to the test, but, we need to win this match and with the weather looking iffy, its gonna be tough.

At least we've now turned up to the series.

Concur. As per usual with England, one or two batsmen stand up, the rest capitulate. We needed someone further down bar Malan/ Bairstow to chip in a 50 or something.

We’re at least a hundred short, the Aussies will post 500+.

Yes, the commentators said at the start of the Aussie innings that 403 only looked about par. Given where we'd got ourselves to, that's a disappointing final score.

Remember the days when we used to bat deep, and people like Broad and Swann would come in at 8 or 9 and hit an extra 30 or so? These days it's like old school cricket, get through the batsmen and the tail just folds.

Smith looks like he's going to go on and bat the whole day tomorrow. We even let Kawaja get a 50.

Though the average 1st innings score in the last 10 tests is only 320, 2nd new ball and a England style collapse and our 403 is looking much better (or Smith could bat all day and we are 200 behind)

We should judge after both 1st innings are complete (but it doesn't look good at the moment)

Has a home average approaching 60 (58.47) (27 odd away though) so is not the mug the English press paint him as.

So disappointed with Moeen. He's been awful with bat and ball. If he's still injured he shouldn't be playing. Broad hasn't been at the races to be honest for a while now either.

Get Smith early though somehow and we are in business.

Another disaster series down under.

We lost KP and Swann last time around, I wonder whose England career is ending this time?

The bowling attack is totally powder puff in these conditions. The 2 senior bowlers are what 31 and 35? Of course they are going to tire.

200 for Smith. Ugh. We're dead on our feet out there, heads are down, no chat.

Overton is bowling with a cracked rib. Fair play son.

A tour too far for Cook, Jimmy and Broad it seems.

It’s shocking how under prepared we have been for this tour. The bowling attack offers almost nothing whilst the batting can’t handle the pace or short bowling.

Let’s hope the weather gives us a draw in this match so we can at least have a chance of retaining them going into the last 2 years...

How can we prepare better?

We have one fast bowler in Wood, who has been injured
What other batsmen are there who would do better? It's taken a year for us to find a number 5 and two years to find someone who resembles an opener.
We don't get to face bowlers of this pace on these wickets anywhere else in the world apart from SA. How can we prepare?

It is no different to India turning up on green seamers in England. Totally alien to them.

For the first time I can't listen to TMS. It is crushing.

Normally batsman get tired and make mistakes. Not even that happening.
