What do you expect, other than complete idiocy from Clare Baldfanny? Her ignorance of the rules of lots of the sports she covers is quite breathtaking.fmgod wrote:Don't know if this has been covered but it is utterly embarrassing lack of knowledge, the cameraman is the ref.

One suspects she doesn't keep getting all of these jobs purely for her sporting knowledge.

Re: Winter Olympics
1. Spend two years entering qualifying events
2. Ensure there are less than 30 competitors at each event
3. Place in the top 30
4. Don't fall over
5. You're going to the Olympics!

I think I'm right in saying that a lot of 'performance enhancing' drugs don't actually enhance your performance, they enable you to train for longer.Bend it like Repka wrote: Why the **** would you dope for curling?
Sweep faster?
Baffling.

Bugger me that speed skating is a cruel event. Elise Christie disqualified in the 1000m, so out of all three distances without finishing.

Re: Winter Olympics
Is it me or is this speed skating one of the shittest sports in the history of the world?
All lump round together, cramped up, barely much room for proper 'racing', any ****er can win as equally as anyone can get taken out.
Just wavey-armed c**** sloshing around an overly small track.
It's absolutely diabolical.

Re: Winter Olympics
It's not just you. It's a ludicrous sport. It's virtually roller derby on skates. If you can manage to not get knocked over, you'll place. It's to the point where a smart strategy might be to stick a fat lump like me out there so that when everyone wipes each other out, I'd just stroll across the line because I'd be safely ensconced well behind the wreckage, albeit 8 laps back.
I'd rather the Olympics include extreme downhill ice racing.

Re: Winter Olympics
Just watched the race on the BBC highlights and it is a mockery of a sport.
The first incident she was done for, in Formula 1 terms she has all 4 wheels alongside her opponent, made the pass in a straight line and has the inside line. The other girl then barges into her.
If that was a crash in F1 the stewards would penalise the outside car.
In her previous race she was the one on the outside and was done on that occasion.
The BBC keep harping on about the legacy she is creating with youngsters. If my kids wanted to do that I'd say no way, you can be the best in the world but unlike say athletics your destiny is not in your own hands but the perception of others.
Hope she comes back for Bejing. She is incredibly unlucky. A medal there would be very sweet.

To get back on thread, my favorite event of these Olympics has been women's hockey, at least when the US or Canada have played. They've played each other twice, last night for the gold. It was a riveting contest. Very fast, very skilled and very well played. Pity it had to be decided in a shootout, but the winning shootout goal was a beauty.

Another 'Russian' fails dope test
A second Russian athlete competing at the Winter Olympics has tested positive for a banned substance.
Nadezhda Sergeeva, 30, is one of 168 Russians allowed to compete as neutrals at the Games despite the country being banned for previous doping offences.
She finished 12th in the two-woman bobsleigh event in Pyeongchang.

Re: Winter Olympics
Billy Morgan! What a result.
Only started on dryslope aged 14. First full taste of snow aged 17. Transferred his gymnastic skills to a totally different sport.
Last jump was only the second time he's landed that trick!
Boom.

Highlight of the games for me is the Curling. I find myself gripped by it. The fact that I’m in love with our girls is a mere aside
