Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
I don't want to celebrate England losing, but until they start to learn, at times you want to see their butt kicked.
Dropping an in form Curran for Stokes was a massive mistake, and it has backfired.
Also again our batting refuses to learn. Chasing a decent target we are still batting in the same way and again we have folded. I still think the whole coaching setup should be changed, we are not progressing at all.

The laptop says Anderson has to bowl to Kohli. God he truly is an abysmal captain by stats leader

What we are learning is that England are great when the ball is hooping at home, and pretty clueless in every other scenario.Slacking student wrote:The laptop says Anderson has to bowl to Kohli. God he truly is an abysmal captain by stats leader
Well, we knew that anyway.
Ed Smith needs to earn his corn and make major changes for the away games this winter.

It's like we've just put that Ashes debacle last winter down to the convicts cheating.Bend it like Repka wrote:I don't want to celebrate England losing, but until they start to learn, at times you want to see their butt kicked.
No variation in the attack again, all RFMs. At least have a lefty in there for some variation, but no we're insisting on a spinner (for once) on a pitch that traditionally offers no spin, or shoving in the same crap batsmen who can't do it at this level.
What next once Jennings is dropped for the next test. Carberry? Compton? Robson? f*** it, what's Ramprakash doing these days?

Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
Ed Smith can make major changes but we keep bringing in new batsmen and none of them look anywhere near capable at this level. How many openers since we harshly dropped Carberry? 10? 12?
Our best batsman is Root and he's gone backwards in the last few years and his captaincy this test has been poor. Dropping Curran who'd been a breath of fresh air and bought variety to the pace attack for Stokes was really poor management, sticking India in to bat on day one as he thought "Ooh a bit of cloud, Trent Bridge...….Broady and Anderson will have them at 50 - 8 at lunch" and hauling off Rashid so a tired Anderson could bowl at Kohli was captaincy by stats.
Jennings is given another chance and still looks as static as he did first time around so he'll be dropped. Habeeb looked okay when he came in but he's been absolutely dire ever since at County level so he's a long way off.
The other issue is that Cook has the worst average this series of all the batsmen so in reality that's 2 openers required for the winter.

Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
Cook is done for. I can't remember the last time he had a good series. That one big double century down under when we'd already lost the Ashes he's done nothing for a few years now.
Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
You can see why Kholi has a lot of confidence in his bowling attack, regardless of how poor England were
I don’t see England losing the series, but we have so many problems to solve before the Ashes next year
We need to hope Starc, Hazelwood, Cummins and Lyon are out of form/injured or they will run through this England team picking up 20 wickets a test for fun. English conditions or not.

Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
I’ve not seen any of the play this weekend what with our game on Saturday and out all day yesterday. It looks terrible though based on the scorecard and your comments!
Not having Curran as a left hand seamer as some variety looks a terrible decision, plus he chipped in with some vital runs too.
Agree that Cook looks over cooked and needs replacing as well as the terrible Jennings. I said it a page or two ago, let’s get Bairstow up opening.

KP on Twitter
“Huge ECB mistake was getting rid of Ian Bell when he had a few good years left in him to help the youngsters.
It’s not the batters fault! It’s the selectors who THANK GOODNESS have been moved on.
Youngsters need senior batters to look up to!”
I know he loves himself, and the timing is obviously a bit classless, but he has a point about Bell I feel. The top order has been a mess for a while.

Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
He is bang on about Bell, to have him come in at 4 or 5 now he is back in some kind of form would be the way to go.
Surely a better bet than Vince, Ballance, Malan.

Could also give him the captaincy and take it off Root and tell him to just become a selfish run machine again.

We've dropped one in the slips, who'd have thought it...
13 dropped slip catches in the slips this series by England!

Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
And now Bairstow does his finger and Buttler has to take the gloves.
One of those tests we just need to end and forget about barring a miracle.
