What about taking Joe Denly, MVP for T20 and One Day but also had a good season for Kent although in Division 2. Leg spin bowling has come on leaps and bounds and would be a useful 3rd spinner who can bat and is also a safe pair of hands.

Denly would be a worthy pick and he'll be in Division 1 next season as Kent sealed promotion yesterday after trouncing Glamorgan. Next week sees Kent travel to Edgbaston for a title decider.

Nah. If your racially abused, get the ****ers there and then (Especially if they're Australian), and not wait to cash-in on a book to do it.
I understand what you're saying but he is a quiet and modest guy. I was surprised that he had a book out to be honest. But what he says is interesting because it just shows why everyone seems to hate the aussies so much.

Burns and Denly called up.

Jennings keeps his place and likely to open with Burns. How jammy is he?

We’re on a hiding to nothing with Jennings, I can’t see him ever coming good in an England shirt, sadly.

Think I read Ed Smith’s sticking with him because he doesn’t want to start the Sri Lanka tour with two new openers. Not sure this is a great policy tbh.

It’s a poor policy. What I find quite ridiculous is that we have struggles in the Top 3, yet can afford to play Buttler as a specialist No 7 batsman. Is that even a thing?

This smacks of panic, we have so little faith in the top order that we have to bat down that low to bail us out.

It begs the question as to why we can’t encourage (or force) one of our 4-7 to move up for the good of the team, sure Root wants to bat 4 but as a captain in a difficult situation, he should lead from the front and open for a while. I know people will point to his average being better at 4 than it is at 3 or as an opener, but I feel that isn’t the point.

The point is not to compare Root against himself at other spots in the order, the point is that Root as an opener is still likely to be better than Jennings.

This is never going to happen, as it seems individuals egos are allowed to overrule what is best for the team as a whole, but it strikes me as ridiculous that on paper we have a strong 4-7 but they will often be under huge pressure because the weak Top 3 will often put us in 30-3 type situations.

He ended up dropping down the order last season and has signed a white ball only contract for Notts, he's not a 4/5 day cricketer

Who also shouldn't be in the squad imo.

But batting even more so than bowling is different in t20/one day than it is Test match. You can't go from not playing the longer format for over a year to opening the batting for a test side overseas

Rain washing out play today for England.

In other news the Aussies are in disarray against Pakistan. Particularly funny is this stat:

Shaun and Mitch Marsh combined against Pakistan...

Innings played: Four

Runs scored: 19

No Jimmy is done as a white ball bowler which is good as he can just focus on playing in test matches
