I’ve not enjoyed this year to be honest.

There’s still some excellent quality darts, but there’s no spark.

Much of the charismatic characters have gone. There’s a lack of intense rivalry & needle. The crowds get increasingly annoying and distracting.

I was never a fan of Phil Taylor as a man, but darts is missing him. His persona, his ability to talk about the game, his mind games which helped build up a good v evil matchup. Van Gerwen is a class above everyone, but isn’t going to keep the game in the public eye.

Rob Cross decent fella as he seems, good player too, has all the charisma of a log.

Darts is losing its mojo

Rio I agree but I would say it's due to the sheer amount of darts that is now broadcasted too.

Some of the livelier characters going out (Peter Wright, Gerwyn Price, Simon Whitlock) early doors, no Taylor as you said, the fact that games haven't really gone to the wire many times.

Van Gerwen vs Anderson in the semis will be the game of the tournament, hopefully

Hope Smith wins this, can`t take to Van Gerwen, awesome though he is. Smith looks like he isn`t even trying that hard and then, bang, another 180.

I tend to agree.

I wonder if MVG sounds like a mong when speaks in his native tongue?

Smith knows that Van Gerwen will average between 100 - 105, possibly more, he'll have to have the game of his life to make it but he's managed to combine scoring power with some of the crucial 100+ finishes in this tournament. I'll be supporting Smith.

Great to watch Anderson get knocked out, he's one of the worst losers in the PDC, along with Wade

The crowd are embarrassing.

Kolo/Yaya songs at a darts match.

Possibly the worst live sports crowd there is.

Booing MVG was terrible and unnecessary.

Definitely the poorest PDC Worlds I can remember. Barely a match worthy of committing to memory.

These things happen though. You need the mediocre to make the great, great.

Amazingly the sport seems to be going from strength to strength whilst the entertainment gets lower and lower and the crowds continually turn into even bigger **** fests than the year before

People talk about the football bubble bursting soon, but surely the darts bubble will burst soon?

Yes I certainly think so, it's been overdone. Televised tournaments almost weekly. The novelty of the darts is (was) that it was only tele a few times a year. And yep, the crowds used to be darts enthusiasts but now it seems like a load of total tos***s.

It was on Eurosport
To be fair it was a decent standard final - [96 vs 93 avg]
Both Glen Durant and Scott Waites would be PDC top 8 players if they went full time and got more big match experience
They are both entering PDC Qualifying School, so will be interesting to see what they decide to do if they do actually get through

Would expect Durrant to be the more successful but Waites is already proven in the PDC - his Grand Slam of Darts win over James Wade is one of my favourite ever finals, to come back from 8-0 down was sensational. He's also beaten Anderson, Taylor and Barney over the years.

Durant got his PDC Tour card but Waites didn't
If he takes it seriously i reckon Durant could be up towards the top 30 by end of the year
Waites never really gives the impression he wants to go full-time anyway so doubt he would have bothered with the gruelling slog of the PDC. He will be in the Grand Slam again anyway

Has anyone been watching the World Matchplay this week? I think it's been fantastic, and plenty of upsets.

Durrant knocked out Van Gerwen last night.
