IF MVG can repeat that performance. To do it 2 nights running will be tough. But if anyone can.....James P wrote:Obscene darts tonight. Barney handed a 6-2 defeat with a 109.34 average. MVG utterly untouchable.
Don't think Anderson will be able to live with that tomorrow.

Re: darts
Not only was Barney's average 109, his Double % was somethinh like 70/75% and he still got smashed 6-2!
MVG is taking Darts to new levels - he is better than Taylor was even in his peak IMO.

True. But if anyone can tame him its Gary Anderson. Should be a cracking final.mjustincredible wrote:

Re: darts
I didn't think Taylor would ever be bettered but 114 over 8 legs of darts is insane. Average of 13.2 darts per leg. I remember when a 100+ average was considered something special.mjustincredible wrote:Not only was Barney's average 109, his Double % was somethinh like 70/75% and he still got smashed 6-2!

I don't know if the human body is capable of doing much better!
Can see there being a 9 darter tonight, think it will be close but van Gerwen to nick it

Definitely. MVG is in a different class than anyone right now. Reminds me of Ronnie O Sullivan in his pomp.shammy wrote:A one sided classic.

One of those sporting "what ifs" as he is brilliant as Taylors star has fallen. Be great if they were at same level at same time. No young great stars coming through so we could get some very predictable world championship for next decade.

The World Darts Championship in the PDC has always been dominated by the older men sadly.shammy wrote:One of those sporting "what ifs" as he is brilliant as Taylors star has fallen. Think the only time a youngster has got near to a chance of winning it was Kirk Shepherd against John Part.

watched some of the BDO on Monday as i couldn't get into the office due to the tube strike - there really is a massive gulf between the PDC version - saw a couple of NO SCORE's

Re: darts
Not all the BDO players are amateurs. Martin Adams is a pro, as are some of the Dutch players, and probably some of the other higher seeds.
The BDO was on a par with PDC about 8 years or so ago IMHO (except Taylor who was miles ahead of everyone). Plenty of players didn't do that well in BDO then improved sigificantly in PDC because of better tornaments, stronger opposition etc. However , BDO gone right down hill in last two years. Still some good players who coukd hold their own in top 32 of PDC, even top 16, but they just don't have the consistency. Scott Waites woukd have done very well in PDC if he had transfered in his prime but lost his edge now. Likewise Wolfie, although a helmet, was defo in top 5 in world 10 years ago.
The main problem with BDO is that players are either old stalwarts, 40+ at end of careers - Durant, Mitchell, Adams, Waites, Fitton etc, or really young inexperienced players. As soon as a young player begins to show some real potential they usually switch, leaving behind the average ones in PDC.
It is a Shame as Lakeside Frimley Green is a brilliant venue to watch darts

Re: darts
Veenstra has something about him...expect him to step up to the pdc in a year or two. Gulf in quality between the bdo and pdc is huge now though.

Re: darts
Fair enough on the amateur point. BDO will always have its place, all county and superleague players come under their umbrella so they will never be short of players. As for youth, I just watched the BDO youth final. The winner van Tergouw averaged 89 which is good for a pro, let alone a 16 year old.

My previous comments about Veenstra...yeah, Noppert made him look bang average last night!
I'd quite like to see De Vos win it...if only to see Jackie go absolutely mental!

Re: darts
Cracking Qtr Final going at the moment between Wolfie Adams and Jeff Hughes. All square at 3 sets each. would love to see Adams win another title but he is missing too many doubles here and could easily have been 2 sets ahead.
Re: darts
Fantastic stuff from Taylor in the Matchplay, just when you finally think he's finished, he stuffs 3 of the best in Van Gerwen, Lewis and Wright, the amount of times he's been written off and comes back again is incredible, especially given his age.
