Gasquet next for Murray, that'll test him and a hostile crowd to boot.
On that point, what a miserable bunch of ferkas the frogs are with all that booing .

What was the booing about OFT? I missed most of the tennis today so no idea what occurred.
Cheers in advance.

Re: Tennis Thread 2016 - French Open
They booed Murray when he was announced and came on court They boo when he berates himself or 'consults' the umpire. In fact, they seem to like a good boo. They also seem to cheer unforced errors. I've noticed it before at Roland Garos for various players but I'm not sure I've heard it at other 'slams'(I stand to be corrected).
Most unpleasant.

Better from Murray in the past two matches... big test coming up for him...
In this era he is the only obvious challenger to Novak..

Andy silencing the French crowd. Taking the third set 6-0. After sharing two brutal sets. Gasquet seems to be broken mentally.

A clinical end to the match from Andy Murray. Winning that second set Tie Break was vital and effectively broke Gasquet's spirit and silenced the partisan crowd. Stan next. Could go either way and could be another5 setter.

Impressive from Murray once he got past the 'wobbles'
Stan next, whole different kettle of fish, that backhand is a monster. If it's working at its best I can't help thinking it'll be too much for Murray, hope to be wrong.

Re: Tennis Thread 2016 - French Open
A good start from Andy, one set up and just broken Stan in 3rd game of second set. The Parisians are very much backing the reigning champion here as Murray's winning shots are only greeted with muted applause whilst a Wawrinka winner is met with wild applause.
Meanwhile Djokovic is steamrollering Thiem in the other semi-final 2 sets up at a loss of just 3 games.

Murray through in 4 sets, was very good today. The French are miserable bastards, could barely manage a clap for him at the end. Just the tenth man to reach all 4 Slam finals. However he'll need to find something else to beat Novak.

Yes that is a telling stat for all that doubt him.
10 people in the history of the game and even better that he's managed that when 3 of the others who've done it have operated in his era.

Re: Tennis Thread 2016 - French Open
They sure are - it was clear from the opening game who they wanted to win. Murray was superb today and never let Wawrinka get going, which he had to do as Stan is such a dangerous opponent. Murray dominated once he had broken serve so early in first set and tbf, Wawrinka rather nicked the fourth set.wolf359 wrote:Murray through in 4 sets, was very good today. Noticed Pat Cash talking b*llocks as usual suggesting Novak has been scrappy during the tournament .
I doubt Thiem thinks so after getting about as many games as I would have done

Re: Tennis Thread 2016 - French Open
Djokovic hasn't got out of third gear yet. I don't dislike him at all and he is unquestionably one of the greatest ever players, but apart from the obviously patriotic support in wanting Andy Murray to win on Sunday, the other reason would be to wipe that smug smile off Boris Becker.

Re: Tennis Thread 2016 - French Open
Didn't see or hear any of the match,(we took the Grandson out for the day) and much to my dismay don't seem able to find a replay of the match(ITV hub is way behind BBC iplayer), but from all accounts it seemed quite straightforward for Murray, unbelievable really.
CRS ,above, has it spot on, particularly regarding Beckers grinning mush, .
I can only see Djokovic eventually winning this but it could be brutal.
Fingers crossed Murray can do it though.

Re: Tennis Thread 2016 - French Open
Murrary is one of the most curious sportsmen ever. Unquestionably one of the best ever players, so far ahead of the next best British players (Henman, Rusedski) of the past decade it is frightening, been in the top five in the world for the past eight years, yet still gets called overrated, loser etc.White Goodman wrote:Yes that is a telling stat for all that doubt him.

Based on what? They had a 5 set semi here last year and Murray beat Djokovic on clay the other week.smuts wrote:Would love Murray to win....but Djoko will win in straight sets.

Mainly because Djoko has beat him 12 times in the last 14 and seems to have his number lately in the slam matches . I'd love to be wrong though.

Murray broken to love in the first game and then wins 4 on the spin, this is going to be some match. He has never beaten Novak after losing the 1st set, really needs to hold this break
