Pair of utter pillocks. Lots of people in the papers today, defending Stokes, as if ABH is just some cheeky non-event. Hopefully, he's innocent - not because we need him playing cricket, but because ABH is a horrible crime and no-one should be on the receiving end.

Agreed, I went to uni in Nottingham and Hales was always out on our student nights giving it the big I am trying to pull birds.

He tried it on with one of the girls that I lived with in final year, to which she replied " f*** off cricket is sh*t".

I disagreed with that sentiment but it was amusing

Yup, he's known for it, flashes his cash all the time in bars. His missus banged on my mates door asking if she had been getting with Hales the night before - turns out it wasn't her it was her mate. If it's a student night or A-Level results night etc you can bet any money he'll be out looking for some

Madness not to take Plunkett! Ideal for Aussie conditions.

Not been impressed Jake Ball at all.

I guess injuries have done for Mark Wood and TRJ which is a great shame.

James Vince has barely averaged above 30 this season has he?? I'd take Hales to bat 5 or 6.

I suppose Ballance has got in through weight of runs in the Championship. Incredible average this season.

Essex odds on the romp the Championship as Invincibles and yet only represented by Cook??

I wonder who will bat no.3?

The lack of a fast bowler who can really exploit the pace and bounce out of Aussie pitches is worrying.

Disappointed to see Adil Rashid overlooked again

All that said, I think it's going to be an Ashes series contested between two average-ish test sides

The indecision in our top order and lack of a proper fast bowler probably tips it in the the Aussie's favour imo

No Buttler or Hales?! I find it crazy we don’t utilise one or the pair of them in our test line up. Ballance back in to fail for the 3rd time. Vince! Would have preferred to keep Westley.

Plunkett or Finn would surely be better than Ball down under.

Crane whilst he has potential, Rashid should be the backup spinner.

Aussies will win this series with ease.

Think I read he's injured.

I suppose they'll go with this for the first Test:

Cook
Stoneman
Ballance
Root
Malan
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Woakes
Broad
Anderson

Ballance....christ.

Shame about Toblerone and Wood. We definitely lack some pace out there and as we know it's not going to swing around corners out there.

Hopefully Stokes can afford decking anyone again and breaking any more fingers....

From BBC Test Match Special twitter page:
England confirm Ben Stokes has a ''minor fracture" in his right hand, but is expected to be fit to take a full part in the Ashes.

Some of the comments on the TMS Facebook page are just comical.

Calling it a disgrace that Stokes has been picked due to this 'incident' etc.

Our squad has gaping holes as it is, without Stokes we'd severely be putting ourselves at a disadvantage.

Yep I don't recall David Warner getting an Ashes ban after he cowardley punched Joe Root (who's about half his size) in the face..

Ashes Selection Limerick time:
  • Is this squad a Hoax?

Saying the squad “provides Ballance”, or “will con-Vince” sound like Jokes,

None of this rhetoric will ever hide or provide Cloaks,

That from retirement Paul Collingwood we now need to Coax!

So now we can only Root for just very few left good Blokes,

    - Like Woakes -,

But the T20 final proved even Stokes sometimes Chokes!

And now he’s been arrested – when it rains, it pours, it Soaks!

So I’ve had my rant, made my Pokes,

    Until the first Ashes over:

    That’s. All. Foakes!

Vince and Ballance partly selected on "character".

Do they bring the X Box or arrange the karaoke or something?

Congratulations to Essex.

They just totally destroyed Yorkshire to finish the county season unbeaten and with 10 wins from 14 games.

Bowled Yorkshire out for 74 to win by 376 runs.

Would advice everyone to stay away from Geoffrey Boycott for the next few days. :D

The Stokes fight is now all over the net, throwing punches everywhere.

I'll be really surprised if he makes the plane to Australia to be honest. He may have been provoked but it doesn't look good.
