Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Root is the best player in a pretty good England set up
On paper this tour won't reflect how close the two sides have been matched at times...India usually just having that little bit more to push them across the line
As others have mentioned it's been our bowlers who have more often than not fallen short... not sure what Morgan was doing with Willey in the last game either, woefully underused him
Be good to see Billings play today, he's unlucky not to have had more chances to date

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
3rd ODI going like the other two, England bat well and post a 'around par' target. Bowl well and get the Indians a couple down, Kohli comes in and.... (so far anyway)

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
We won
But we don't half make hard work of it, India threw it away to be honest. We have a good team, just need to get work out the bowling (we often lose it in the last 8 or so) Strokes is great but he has failed in the last knockings a few times now. Champions Trophy should be interesting on home soil.

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Umpire had a 'mare today in the 2nd, Kohli plum, not out. Root clear inside edge , out. He is Indian, just saying.
1-1 with some 'help' for the Indians.

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
True but Root batted very poorly, wasted a lot of balls instead of rotating the strike. Potentially a match losing inninngswolf359 wrote:Umpire had a 'mare today in the 2nd, Kohli plum, not out. Root clear inside edge , out. He is Indian, just saying.

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
It was great bowling but as SS says in the post before, Root wasted far too many balls.
Even the delivery he was (wrongly) given out he should have just been looking to get Buttler onto strike.

I've seen some England collapses before but this is almost at a new level.....

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Some interesting ideas coming up for discussion at the ICC
A nine-team Test championship spread over two years
Plus a 3 year ODI league to decide World Cup places in the 4th.
Really like the idea of the "Test" league, will bring some much needed tension to this most beautiful form of the game.
Interestingly the door is to be slightly opened to the top associate member sides - "Test status would also be granted to two new teams – most likely Ireland and Afghanistan – who with Zimbabwe (ranked 10th), would not feature in the league system at first but still be guaranteed fixtures between themselves and against the top teams.
Should these three nations prove their strength over time, the Test championship could then be either expanded or feature new teams."
TEST STATUS FOR IRELAND!!

Well done Captain Cook, delivered some fantastic series results and definitely developed as a captain. Probably the right time for somebody else to take the reigns, especially if he didn't think it was right to carry on as captain. Fingers crossed he gets back to his best with the bat now. Also hopefully Root can thrive like Kholi as captain (if appointed).

Definitely the right time. Hopefully he will stay on as opener for years to come.
