Re: Cricket
Also worth remembering the OS is in Essex....well, at least the pre '65 boundary change it is.
Surrey and Middlesex get away with it, after all.

Yep, County Cricket is based on the pre-1965 borders.
Not only Surrey playing @ The Oval and Middlesex @ Lord's, but also Warwickshire's home at Edgbaston, Birmingham (West Midlands) and Lancashire's in Old Trafford, Manchester, etc, etc
Also worth remembering West Ham Utd was founded an Essex club, and that Essex CCC used to play home games at Leytonstone.
London is not a 'county' of course.. And the Olympics was held in 'Essex'..

Re: Cricket
Correct, though Essex used to play in Leyton rather than Leytonstone. Minimal difference and purely pedantic.WestHamIFC wrote:

Re: Cricket
Would the pitch be physically big enough for a decent game of cricket?
I have visions of defensive prods going for four runs.

Essex to play T20 at Olympic Stadium
Deal in principle agreed, pending approval of the LLDC. Looks like Kent and Middlesex are interested too, in what could be a fortnight of T20 cricket each summer.

I'd love if they included a game or 2 with a West Ham season ticket too!

Re: Essex to play T20 at Olympic Stadium
I doubt any "ordinary" T20 game will attract enough fans, but certainly could work for finals day or a festival. Imagine three or four games in a day, involving four counties or even four countries, I could see that being a near sellout.
I'm sure an India V Pakistan game would sell out in no time.

Re: Cricket
Why? Nothing extra for us and just means instead of a 15 minute drive to Chelmsford I have a 60 minute drive to Stratford with all the hassle of paying more for parking.WestHamIFC wrote:"Olympic Stadium: T20 cricket deal 'in principle', say Essex"

That's why.

Re: Cricket
I totally agree. I think this is exactly the kind of thing that should be happening to the stadium out of the football season along with athletics.WestHamIFC wrote:"Olympic Stadium: T20 cricket deal 'in principle', say Essex"

As a taxpayer and therefore a shareholder in this place, I want to see as much varied sport being hosted as possible.

Re: Cricket
To answer the original question(3 years late) drop on pitches, where the wicket is prepared at another venue would be used.
The ground would be big enough, cricket is played at the MCG, which was the Olympic stadium for the 1956 Olympics. It's huge for cricket.

I'm from South East London but live in Gidea Park. I care nothing for Essex cricket and watch Kent on a regular basis. I would watch Essex with my kids at Stratford if it was priced correctly. I won't pay the money they want at Chelmsford out of principle. My kids are Kent fans even though they have barely set foot in the place
