Re: The English Summer of Cricket
I'm not sure, he goes to town towards the end but surely you have to seriously take into account one of his 'victims' is waving a bottle around and actually catches Hales with it.
Stokes took this guy down and disarmed him, yet he got back up and still squared up to Stokes and ended up getting twatted.'
Admittedly, Stokes then does go after the second guy as he seems to be backing down, which doesn't look great, but there has to be a strong case for self defence taking the bottle into account.

It doesn't but what happened to the concept of innocent until proven guilty in front of a jury of peers. He hasn't even been charged yet. Disgusting how the righteous BBC have already decreed on this one.WestHamIFC wrote:This really doesn't look good for Stokes

Based on that, I fail to see how Stokes can be held responsible. We don't see how things started, but he did what he had to do to defend himself. Probably shouldn't have chinned that matey or slapped the other one at the end, but they were patently asking for it.

Hales leaving it all to Stokes until the guy is on the floor then chucking a few cowardly kicks in

The way I see it a couple of knobheads get a bit lardy after a shandy, one with a bottle, then crap themselves when one of the blokes they picked on decides to fight back.
Case dismissed!

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Just seen the video. Be amazed if he's on the plane based on that. After all, players have been sacked from England for a lot less...
Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Well even if he gets off with assault it's definitely affray.
And i think it's enough for him to get taken off the Ashes tour. The depressing thing for me is that it's a gift to the aussies. I can't see anything other than a 5-0 victory for them.

The Sun will be all over Supporting England at the Ashes yet went all out im sure to dig this video out and basically get our star player banned. I really hate the Tabloid press in this country!
The geezer started it with a bottle in his hand FFS.

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Stokes didn't do a lot wrong, defending his mate, squaring up to two blokes and taking them on that's fair enough, but Hales puts a few kicks in once Stokes has floored them, I'd say he was in the wrong based on that.

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Is the bloke he eventually decks the same guy who attacked with the bottle? If it isn’t the same guy then the ‘Self-Defence’ argument becomes very weak because in this case he’s decked a guy who’s only been trying to help his mate by acting as peace-maker.Hemel Iron wrote:Admittedly, Stokes then does go after the second guy as he seems to be backing down, which doesn't look great, but there has to be a strong case for self defence taking the bottle into account.
That said as a precedent, I think David Warner only missed 1 match (which Stokes has already) back in 2013 for decking Joe Root – a guy virtually half his size - with zero provocation and absolutely no claim of ‘Self-Defence’…

And he also has just said without Stokes they may as well stay at home. Knob
Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Self defence, the other bloke had a bottle.
He hasnt even been charged yet, but if so, get a decent lawyer in - job done.
The Sun are absolute scum for publishing that.

Really? Stokes can just about avoid having a punch up on the pitch at times let alone a nightclub at 2.30 in the morning.steps wrote:I wouldn't bet against this actually being a set up by The Sun.

Re: The English Summer of Cricket
Stokes is lucky the guy he puts on the floor near the end turns slighty as he falls and doesn't land smack bang on the back of his head - could have been facing more than ABH.

Piers Morgan
@piersmorgan
BREAKING:
I'm hearing that Ben Stokes intervened to help two gay guys who were being abused by yobs, one of whom was armed with a bottle.
Obviously take it with a pinch of salt as it's that silly twat, but I'd like to hear more about the situation around this.
