Maybe this is an attempt at humour. If so, it fails miserably. :thdn:

So if the Paralympics is a 'freak show', it follows that the disabled athletes are 'freaks' then?

^ yea' i think cripples* trying to run fits the definition of something "freak", as "a very unusual and unexpected event or situation".

I think the Paralympics is great, not necessarily for an able-bodied people to watch on tv but for the people with disabilities and I imagine if you were an able bodied parent and had a disabled child then you would want them to be able to compete like this and see the joy on their face

Absolutely.

There's a huge distinction between those taking part, their extremely impressive achievements and the actual watching and enjoying of it.

I certainly do think a lot of it comes down to feeling a little anti-climactic with it being straight after the main event.

I found watching the Paralympics thrilling , sometimes I didnt understand the classifications , but to see Liam Malone , the Kiwi , run like he did , the two Ellies swim , Hannah Cockcroft power her way across the line followed by a 15 year old girl for bronze , Kadeena Cox win golds in TWO sports.

It shows that Parasport at this level needs the skill and the dedication that any top level sport needs and beyond.

Don't like it , don't watch it , but I thought it was fantastic.

When I volunteered at London 2012, the Paralympics was described to me as 'the silver lining of the cloud of being disabled'. At the Paras, it really struck me that the competitors were enjoying themselves - just loving being there. If it improves what must be a fairly shitty life, I'm all for it.

 Well said East Ham. Personally I genuinely found it more interesting and inspirational than the Olympics themselves.

There's no new one mate, no point now everything is online. I took the old one down the charity shop, they were quite happy to shift it on......
