Re: Walter Swinburn RIP
Really shocked by this, only 4 years older than me.
I remember him winning the 1981 Derby on Shergar as if it was yesterday rather than 35 years ago. He was just 19 at the time and would go on to win 2 more Derbys, including his 1986 victory of Sharahastani which I wasn't pleased about having had a couple of decent ante post punts on what I considered an unbeatable horse, Dancing Brave, but the race didn't pan out how I expected. However, take nothing away from W.R Swinburn, he took his opportunity well.
But enough of my misplaced bets, 55 is no age at all, RIP The Choirboy

Re: Walter Swinburn RIP
Oh my - just seen this and couldn't believe what I was reading ....
Walter Swinburn was a true gentleman of Racing , a lovely lovely man .
I backed him several times [ including the Sharastani Derby ] but the one race that he will be forever remembered for is the 1981 Derby , the commentary of the last few furlongs forever etched in every Racing Fan's memory - such a sad loss - I hope you will forgive me for including the running of that famous race here ." onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
