What's the best way to go about acquiring a second hand set of clubs for a beginner? I'm looking at starting up some lessons in the next couple of weeks. Any help/advice much appreciated

ebay/golf trader are your best websites for golf gear mate

played priors saturday - £15 for a round

the course isnt in the best nick but it was ok for that money - apparently the contractors doing the works there has buggered off before finishing it

It's not a hijack, it's what the thread's for.

Golfbidder is another one worth looking at. They only do good makes and the stuff they sell is in decent condition. Better than the Odyssey putter I wanted to sell them.

Don't bother with a driver for now, it'll only frustrate you. Top Tip: look at American Golf to see which clubs are suitable for beginners (high handicap) and see if they're on Golfbidder.

Or you could look at package sets in American Golf.

Thinking about it, hold off buying clubs until you've had a few lessons. The pro will provide them for you to start with and his advice on what to buy will be better than anything we can say.

I'd recommend the Abbots course if you're flexible on time? Think it was £20/round before 8am or something the last time I played it and the course is sooooo good.

AG is good for second hand gear... they had a massive drive buying a lot of second hand gear and now have to shift it

at least go and try some models before getting off golf bidder

yeah ive played abbotts too - i thought it was a tough track

only reason we played priors was that it was due to rain - we didnt mind if we got rained off priors for £15

My favourite course in essex is Toot Hill

Played Farleigh near Warlingham yesterday and managed 23 points. Greens difficult to read but 3 good 9 proper 9 hole courses that can be combined into 18 and 27 if you so wish.

Amateurs should watch more women's golf. The women pro's are a lot closer to what us part timers have to offer. Trying to emulate what the men have to offer is suicide to the average golfer imo.

hit top meadow today after my grandad mugged me off yesterday saying "you wont break 100 at top meadow" senile old fool must forgot that ive done it before... really made me angry lol I hate that course anyways

started off with a shank .. hit triple bogey on the first thinking damn it

I'm playing at Nizels tomorrow near Tonbridge. Have any of you played there and if so what is it like?

Played Nazeing today. (everyone needs to get on groupon and play this while the deal lasts, £48 for a 4 ball with a bacon roll, tea and 30 range balls, £28 for a 2 ball in same deal)


anyways went out in 14 points.. didnt play amazing but was playing solid

back 9 hit 23 points

won the 4 ball with 37 points

What's it like over there now?

Our society used to play there every year and we used to love it.... we then said at an AGM that we wanted to play different venues, so left it for about 4 years. We went back there last year around July and the place was in a shocking state. The fairways were terrible, the greens were ruined, the bunkers had no sand and the clubhouse needed more than a lick of paint, and they still charged us top dollar. Needless to say it was crossed off the list again this year.

its decent on the deal for sure.. anything over £20 a round and id be questioning it

fairway bunkers were non existent ... all "GUR".. greens were decent.. fairways were decent enough

lots of work being done over there

played there twice now .. enjoyed both times but last time more because it was like £12
