it really is my favourite time of the year to play golf

Bushy hall today.. last time I played there I won a team event

today I won my society event with 34 points (with 2 blobs)

Had a lesson since my 2 wins

been switched to a "hookers grip" (mrs is convinced golf is pure filth the way we grip down the shaft.. go swinging our clubs at balls using hookers grips)

slowly bedding in

winding down a bit now for the winter

Mrs has kindly got me a new bag for xmas.. a nice one of those stadry carry bags (found one 3 months old on ebay for like £110.. bargain)

anyone winter golfing?

I am joining ingrebourne links par 3 course.. £195 for the year but means can play the par 3 as much as I want.. great little course.. holes range for 65 - 125 yards so can really sort the swing out.. find it much easier to sort things out on the course than at the range sometimes

Yep, at least once a week unless thunder and lightning are actually happening before our tee time, or the course is closed for one of the Biblical Plagues.

It's a different game wehn the greens are frozen like concrete and you can axtually hear the crack of your ball landing, then bouncing like one of those Zectron Superballs off into the distance.

my preferred Playing partner is taking a 3 month winter break to try and fix his back that's plagued him all season so whilst I will still play it wont be as much

in the winter I switch to a Dunlop tour soft because they are cheap and cheerful don't care if they get lost in the winter lol (mate off 11 plays off them all year round!)

I use the Dunlop tour soft ball (£17 for 48!). I don't have an official handicap but usually between 24-27 over par but these balls aren't that bad.

I lose one or two a round, a few weeks ago I lost 7! But at that price they are a fairly solid ball. My playing partner/father in law uses Callaway chrome soft and I don't notice much difference really. I like the Dunlop for putting but that may be because I have used them for 4 years.

I have a friend who is a 4 handicap and he used them a few times and shot the same score he usually does so I don't know how much difference they ball actually makes. Obviously spin on the greens isn't as great but I hit it with quite a lot of loft so it stops almost dead anyway.

We play all through winter and only stop of it is lightening or completely monsoon weather. You usually get the course to yourself and with some thermals on it can still get quite warm.

First round in yonks yesterday - probably 4 months
Played with my father in law up at Aldwickbury

As always, all the individual components were there - drove it nice and straight 250 yards on occasions, smashed a five iron 200 yards off the deck pin high, pulled out one of two lovely chips

However, putting them all together on a consistent basis still eludes me and generally my short game is disgusting. A couple of times just off green in 2 and take 6. Other times playing 3 off the tee and then play the hole to par with second balle

As a result 27 points playing of 23, and only 3 pars

Very poor

Can't see myself playing again this year

played risebridge yesterday, 39 points

without even noticing I went from 11th - 15th in all bogies then finished par birdie double which apart from the double was nice

new grip was starting to bed in nicely and actually hit some irons straight again instead of shanking

Love winter golf, we have a winter league every year at our club, 4 divisions and 10 or 11 pairs in each division. 4 ball better ball match play is the format, 2 pts for a win and 1 for a half. Takes place every other Sunday morning between October and March, even managed to win Div 2 a couple of years back.

Joined Ingrebourne mini links par 3 course.. best £200 ive spent.. bone dry over there was great to go round twice taking my time and working on my irons / wedges

winter golf aint all bad

first time out in a few months - played cranham in very strong winds got 30 points so it werent too bad

missed a birdie putt on the 18th (lipped out) - which would have won me the match - ended up a draw

playing there again this sunday too

Played Cranham again on Saturday - it was very cold over there

Shot 83 - 34 points

beat my opponents with 2 holes to play

my mate hit a drive up a goose's backside and we couldnt find his ball either - the goose could be laying a golden bear soon

Played cranham New Year's Eve. It's in good nick for the time of year. 31 points

I have 2 courses I play in the winter above all others

Cranham and Panshanger (in welwyn garden city) both are excellent in the winter

I havent played a proper round since nov 16th which is bloody annoying however I will play again now my mate is back from the winter break

I play my 9 hole over ingrebourne every week tho

9 holes of it is open now

Further 9 opens June this year

Final 9 open next June

The mini links is excellent for practice

It’s holes ranging from 65 yards to 125 yards but really good for practicing your short game

First time round I went round 9 over with only one double
