Re: KUMB General Formula 1 News thread
Well the procession was almost made interesting by a late crash. I stand by my previous post as a race Monaco is terrible as an event it is looks amazing.
Btw Alonso is winning the Indy500 1/4 of the way through.

Big smash with seventeen to go means leader Max Chilton can go to the finish without another stop.

Seems he is better and Indy than F1 (though he was driving a banger in budget terms for Manor)Johnny Byrne's Boots wrote:Big smash with seventeen to go means leader Max Chilton can go to the finish without another stop.

Agree. I haven't watched this race for a few years. Won't be watching for a few more years. They need a way to make it possible to overtake...wolf359 wrote:Well the procession was almost made interesting by a late crash. Re: KUMB General Formula 1 News thread
Monaco is the only race I will happily not waste a second of my time watching - hate it! I will only bother if its raining and even then you still can't overtake.
Watched the Indy 500 for the 1st time and it was actually quite interesting, biggest complaint is the huge amount of Ads and was way too many yellow flags that breaks up the action. I mean they are driving around at 230mph so you expect a few yellows / cautions for crashes yet why do they have to do it even when an engine blows, if the driver if off the line and drives it into the pits why the hell do they need to bring yellow out for that.
The race actually has a lot more strategy to it and you have to sometimes build a few laps to get your momentum going. The only issue is once you get to 1st its impossible to pull away due to the way the draft/ slipstream works so your just as well staying around the top 10. This makes it more exciting for the low attention span yanks as you can't pull away from the pack so there is always a tight race to the end. However it gives no advantage to the the best drivers on the field, like Alonso who was clearly miles ahead of the others and it was his 1st Oval race which is a completely different discipline, the guy is amazing. In most other Racing, if you get to the front you can pull away and show your superiority yet not here. Still I would watch it again, well done to Sato.

Re: KUMB General Formula 1 News thread
I believe the reason for all the safety cars in Indy is to close up the field and make it more 'interesting'.
I found it remarkable watching the 'virtual dashboard' in the cars, they only used top gear when slipstreaming. Running without the benefit of a tow they could only manage 4th or 5th out of 6 gears.

Re: KUMB General Formula 1 News thread
Enjoyed the Indy, but as JBB says, it is a bit artificial. The first 2 thirds of the race were largely irrelevant Alonso did look superb though.
A lot of people who knock F1 theses days don't really get the difference between a pure race, with no artificial conditions, or events like Touring Cars or Indy Car that use things such as ballast, reverse grids and multiple safety cars. In reality they are two different things.
Monaco was a bit dull though. They really do need something artificial there, random 15 min sprinklers would help.

Proper race this. My favourite of the year in Canada. Lewis leading early on afte some dodge 'ems at the start.
Max retires after going from 5th to second. That boy should try pod racing, he has Jedi reflexes.

Re: KUMB General Formula 1 News thread
Good result for Lewis with Vettel finally finishing outside the top two. For once it was Vettel with a poor start but such is the advantage that Ferrari and Mercedes engines have over the rest of the field, invariably when either of them end up at the back of the field for whatever reason, they are able to carve their way back to a point winning position with relative ease.
This season looks like it will go all the way to the wire unless one of them starts to experience relability problems.

Lewis breaks the record for Poles.
Hopefully he'll win the race and Vettel will not finish (or finish in eleventh with a late puncture )

These Force India lads are bloody lucky not to be seriously injured. The pair of them are bloody dangerous!

Re: KUMB General Formula 1 News thread
Hamilton was sensational today. Every session he was straight on it, miles faster than anyone else who were taking a number of laps to get up to their quali time.
The only other driver I have seen with that dominance in the wet was Senna.

Re: KUMB General Formula 1 News thread
So after today's races who will win the championship?
what race suits who? I expect Vettel to take the next one but after that who should do what?
