BTCC 2017

Postby Devs Hampton on Sat Aug 05, 2017 12:15 pm

As 4 wheel racing goes, as good as it gets in this country. Did the Thruxton round and spent last week end in Norfolk for both days at Snetterton. Great racing, fantastic atmosphere and fully including the fans, you can pretty much get everywhere but the pit lane and circuit (although thanks to Dunlop and Matt Simpson Racing we did both of them too!!) Complete lack of billy big b*llocks throughout, very refreshing

I was at Snetterton too and you are absolutely right, it's proper racing without the pretensions (Plato apart hahaha).
Me and my mates usually do both Brands meetings and I've done Rockingham as well. They have done Thruxton and Donny but I haven't managed those.
I started a thread at the start of the season on this board and there are a few of us who like the Touring Cars.
Next one for me will be the last meeting at Brands.

Got an invite up to Knock Hill this weekend but just too damned far!
Will be doing Silverstone & Brands though.

Hope you enjoy Silverstone Devs. I've not done that one as yet.

Final meeting of the season at Brands Hatch.
I'm going even though its supposed to belt down all day. Been there before though and if you stick it out its great.
With my good friends with lots of tea, a stove, bacon, eggs and hot dogs with copious packets of Mcoys.
Shame the Hondas are out of it now, but plenty of good racing to be had I reckon.
Roll on Sunday!
I hope Ash Sutton does it to be honest, but Turkington is a wiley and very decent driver so I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls it off.
Plato.............see ya..!!

I'll be watching on TV, although I'll be off to work before race 3. Been another good year, I personally hope Turkington does it. He's a great driver, one of the fastest and cleanest in the field. Also, I do feel Sutton has benefitted unduly from the mid-season rule tweak that gave him lots more power. He's done well with it and will be a worthy champion but I still rather Turks wins it overall.

Good luck in the rain. I went to Brands in 93' to watch the WSB (Irish round!) there and the opening lap as they came out into the 'country' section was one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen. The bloke at the front could see, about 25 others following at 170mph totally blind. Madness on wheels!

Thanks mate. It's supposed to be fairly dry but rain for the last race so it could be interesting.
I think Turkington will do it. As you say he's a proper driver and with that car will use his ability to pip Sutton.
As I say, the last race will be good!

Turkington wins race 2 by punting another driver out of "his" way, now gets taken out himself in race 3.

Karma.

Any other race in the season and Turkington would have been penalised for that. As it happened it left the final race wideopen and as you say....Karma.
Brilliant day out as always. Roll on next season, probably with the Alpha Romeos making a comeback.

I only watched it on television, but as you were actually there you may not have heard Turkington was sort of penalised. He was fined £500 and given three penalty points, presumably to make the final race have some meaning. A cop out for sure, especially as Sutton did the same previously and was given a time penalty sufficient to reverse the placings.

Glad you enjoyed it. As a matter of interest, how long did it take you to get out?

I didn't know about Turkingtons 'penalty' but as you say, it was winding up for drama on the final race.
We were parked on the South Bank and we always make a cup of tea and sit about for 30/40 minutes. By then there might be a little hold up and we get out and dont have to turn right and go through the villages. Just turn left and head for the M25.
It's a bit like The Boleyn Ground was. Have a couple of pints in the Queens and the tubes are clear.
Anyway, roll on next season and a few days out at the racing hopefully.
