running 5k

Post by simon hammer »

Just ran my first 5k after some knee issues that have kept me from running for 15 months. Non competitive, just round a 5k route I planned out. Did it in 25 mins, 12secs. I am 41, and consider this a pretty good time considering how long it's been and how out of condition I am...but here's the kicker...

...my 8 year old boy was running with me.

Forget my time, for his age group that has to be a good effort surely?

Not bad, but there are are 8 year olds that can do 17 minute 5k's. Scary, isn't it.

17 minutes is basically elite running
25m12s after 15 months out is superb, what other exercise have you been doing since then to keep your stamina up?

17 mins is a fantastic effort.

I broke 20 mins for the 5k a couple of weeks ago, want to get my 10k time down from 42 mins to below 40 as well which is the next target.

I don't ever really run as short as 5k but figured I need to be doing sub 20 easily before I think about a sub 40 10k

Nowhere near sub 20, although I think I could do it if I could find the time to practice/work towards it. Best time is 21.35 I think which I did in December last year. Not bad for nearly 40 though :)
