Re: The Ashes 2017/18
It'll be the Oval on 13th June in an ODI.
No home Ashes this summer we're playing India, who are notoriously ***** in England, so our humiliation will be all the worse.

Yes, only a few ODIs and T20 (if I'm not mistaken) this summer against Oz.
2 tests v Pakistan
5 tests v India.

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
They said it was sticky tape with rough bits that had been picked up off the wicket (where it had been crumbling I suppose). Homemade sandpaper more or less.jacko wrote:
Sorry but Athers got off very lightly. We shouldn't be hypocritical about this. There are difference which make what Smith and Co were doing much worse but Athers were very lucky. He never fully explained it - who knows if it was a heat of the moment thing for him. Plus they haven't said it was a piece of sandpaper, they said it was tape.
Must admit - Athers when asked for his reaction on the Sky panel did seem really coy on the subject. It was a bit of an uncomfortable watch really. Whereas Bumble and Ian Ward just let rip on the Aussies.

Most English fans are just laughing their cods off at the pickle Smith and Warner have got themselves in.jacko wrote:Some of the reaction is way way over the top though. I expect Smith to resign as captain and Warner to go as VC. Reading someone talking about life bans. That's not going to happen.
The biggest uproar is from the Australian press, public, etc which makes it all the more amusing.
If I don't have to watch Smith crab like at the wicket scoring double tons against our mid paced trundlers ever again, then I'm not going to cry over it. It's not like watching Lara in his pomp is it?

Has anyone asked Vaughn how many Murray mints the ball shiners got through in the 2005 Ashes?steps wrote:

Just want that horrible little runt Warner to get his come uppance, going to happen soon. Nasty nasty piece of work. Hope they look into why he wears so much dodgy tape on his hands in the field.

Really?jacko wrote:[ Aussies don't even need to cheat to beat us!
Arguably the best swing bowler in the world Jimmy Anderson couldn't get the ball moving, yet all 3 Aussies could, with a Kookaburra that has a reputation of little or no swing.
You don't find that the slightest bit iffy?

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
On one hand they did have the ability to bowl about 5mph + faster than Jimmy, but on the other if Warner's handmade sandpaper bandages on one side and loads of sugary gob on the shiny side were coming into effect, who knows?
David Saker probably knows the answer..........

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
Being reported today that Lehmann will supposedly resign and one year bans will be handed out to Smith and Warner, which means they’ll be back in time for The Ashes.
Tbh, I wouldn’t mind that as they’d get absolute hell over here. Knowing our luck though it’d probably have a positive effect on them.

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
Aussie reporting. This story is huge over here.
Warner is an utter knob and has always been one - basically Shane Warne 2.0 (but not as good a cricketer).
But the fact that he's sucked Smith into his vortex of amoral ineptitude is his crowning glory. And getting Bancroft to do the deed itself is simply unforgivable.
These guys are paid huge sums of money, Smith was set to earn $5m of our dollarydoos this year with Warner more than $3m. They appear on TV ads with young kids promoting cricket. Lots of parents have been having to explain to their kids that their heroes are cheats.
They obviously get cut a lot of slack, with the sledging etc. The public expects them to play hard, and win, but keep it (just) fair. Now your lot, India, and the Saffers have largely caught up with us in this regard. But this was also just amateur hour. Use a sweet, some saliva, or be at least a bit subtle.
We deserve every single ounce of negativity that comes our way.

one bunch of nasty overly aggressive gits , with Warner as their chief henchman , i even read he abused an test team mate so badly in a domestic game , that the other player hardly acknowledges him now

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
i believe every country has manipulated the ball in one way or another , however, the way that the aussies have played the game the past 2 years has been disgusting , Warner has been a disgrace , and is lucky he hasnt been banned well before this happened . , with watson before him also another piece of work

Decision from Cricket Australia expected today
The general reporting from cricket pundits online appears to be:
Warner and Smith 1 year bans
Lehmann and backroom staff all sacked

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
I have no problem with the ball tampering aspect of the game, I've done it as has everyone. In fact it's a better look for the game if they just legalised it as the game is so heavily weighed in favour of the batsmen at the moment. Seeing the ball swing late and giving the bowlers a chance makes for better cricket. No one and I repeat no one wants bat dominating the ball like we saw in the winter at the MCG, it's bad for the game therefore I say legalise it. Bottle caps, sandpaper, fingernails the lot. Make it go round corners. It's better for the game when the ball is moving and at pace.
The problem comes in this instance as it feels like that straw that broke the camels back with this Australian team. The constant whining, the sledging of a personal nature, whole attitude of alpha-dome where you have to be better than the beta males and play cricket hard just grates when it's done back to you and you then start whinging.
Vaughan as usual is annoyingly high and mighty on the subject, everyone is at it.

Can they add Nathan Lyon to that list? Just because it's Nathan Lyon.....Nesticles wrote:Decision from Cricket Australia expected today

Re: The Ashes 2017/18
I think it's only fair and reasonable to ban Smith, Warner, Hazelwood, Starc, Cummins and Lyon until after the 2019 Ashes Series

Apparently they asked for stump microphones to be turned off. Presumably so as not not to hear the racist, homophobic, sexist comments that spews from the cretin's mouth?chigwells finest wrote:one bunch of nasty overly aggressive gits , with Warner as their chief henchman , i even read he abused an test team mate so badly in a domestic game , that the other player hardly acknowledges him now
I hope when he and Root had a little "altercation" a few years back, Joe bashed f*** out of him.

Hate to defend Warner....but didn't he take offence to a slightly suspect Root impression of Amla?
