New Zealand v England test series
Going well then.
England 27-9 on day one, as I write. Five ducks so far.

Re: New Zealand v England test series
more than doubled the score for ALL OUT .... 58.
Quite astonishing.
Jimmy could be a hero or a, not going to overly contemplate the alternative, Stokes giving them a duffing.

wtf? Just woke up to this, when you thought it wasn't possible to sink any lower in the Test Arena (I know NZ are useful at home but...)

Re: New Zealand v England test series
Its no excuse, but they've been down there for 5 months now and its just too long IMO to keep playing different formats and still being able to keep a high enough intensity to compete.
Extremely poor planning.

New Zealand are no mugs but we certainly are! we go from one low to another.
I've heard a couple of interviews where Root and Strauss have made points of saying we were competetive in the ashes. I know we had our moments but every single time they outclassed us. I think they would be better to accept our weaknesses and far away we are.

Some of the wickets were laughable.
And when the ball is meant to be hooping around, NZ make 175.

I can't even bring myself to say it anymore. That's how demoralising sport is at the moment

Re: New Zealand v England test series
The ECB have some responsibility here. Don't get me wrong the players have to stand up, but think about the schedule the players have had over the last 12 months.
July - Sept. South Africa & West Indies
Nov - Jan. Australia away
March. NZ away.
If we were saying that the warm up schedule for Australia was inadequate, it is even more stupid for NZ.
After 3 months of the Ashes players were going to be tired, mentally washed out. How the ECB expected them to go home, relax, switch off for just 6 weeks then play a couple of token knocks and be back fully in the groove for test cricket is ridiculous.
In top level sport you can't cut corners, you can't just switch on and off form at the drop of a hat.

I’d get Bayliss out of the way and get a new man in before next year’s Ashes.
Ok, he may be a good coach in the short format of the game but we’ve just gone from one trouncing to what well could be another.
Maybe keep him on but get someone in for the Test format, keeping one eye on the World Cup.

Re: New Zealand v England test series
I was watching it live in the States last night .... didn't even go to bed late.
I think the cricket administrators need to devote a lot more attention to the test format and touring schedules because, at the moment, the games are hardly worth playing. Teams are winning at home and losing away and why would anyone want to watch matches where the results aren't really in doubt.
That said, we were flat out bloody awful! Our batting is piss-poor and, let's face it, has been for a while. Cook and Root can bat but, you wouldn't think so on recent form.

Re: New Zealand v England test series
Our scheduling is poor, England consistently play the most tests and you can see how it tires the players.
Still, it's painful how ***** we are at the moment. It was only a few years ago we were good.

Re: New Zealand v England test series
I know the scheduling is crap, etc but the majority of our batting over the last few years has been bloody awful. Can't hack fast bouncey stuff, spin and and now pitched up seam is enough to scramble our brains.
Still no spinner either on the horizon, another samey seam attack.....we just go through the motions and do the same thing again and again.

Re: New Zealand v England test series
Almost a total wash out on day 2, if we get 3 more days of that then we might sneak a draw.

You shouldn't be praying for heavy rain after session 1 of the first day but that's what it has come to
Also the Aussie Saffer series is a belter so far, mainly because it's competitive and fiery (read bad tempered)
Loving seeing the saffers giving as good as they get to the Aussies. Also the second the ball moves the Aussie batsmen look vulnerable.

Aussie batsmen play swing about as well as England batsmen play pace.
