Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
Apparently the players are going to wear names and numbers for the Ashes test matches.
Traditionalists will hate it but I don't see it being a problem as long as the kit remains white

Big fan of Ashwin mankading Buttler in the IPL today, not enough of it going on in the world as far as I'm concerned

Big difference for me about stealing ground and what happened today.
Ashwin didn't catch Buttler doing that, he dummys his action to sell Buttler out. Closer to cheating than poor sportsmanship for Ashwin in my view. I certainly wouldn't like to see that being common in cricket.

If cricket turned into a game where both sets of bowlers were actively looking to do that I would give up watching

Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
No it's a legitimate way of getting somebody out, it's deceptive but what is the difference between getting somebody out by deceiving them in the flight or by waiting for them to leave the crease.psychoscoredthelot wrote:Either you're on a wind up or you're an aussie ?
Buttler is the one who is cheating (gaining an advantage) Ashwin is playing withing the laws of the game. I'd have no problem doing it to a batsmen as I bowl, it's dozy batting and clever bowling. Easy way to not be mankaded is to stay in your crease.
I never understood why spirit of cricket is held as sacrosanct in somethings, don't run if the ball hits you, but ignored in others (ie not walking when nicked off).
Laws for me overule the spirit of the game, play hard, play to win, don't ever give an inch.

and the sports bar changed when it was set up to weed this stuff out as threads get ruined by posts disrupting threads, have a lookat the posting guidance for this forum, its different to other places so people can enjoy posting in here without fear of that type of cobblers

Re: England Cricket Thread 2018
Sicknote, I'm genuinely not trying to troll, surely the mankad is acceptable as a form of dismissal? I've been mankaded before (never making that mistake again) and upheld an appeal when one of my bowlers did it to an opponent. I was raging at the time but looking back it taught me a lesson about being a dozy **** and only having myself to blame.
If it's in the Laws isn't it fair game? I personally, having played all my cricket up north and in Australia where the spirit of the game certainly comes second to the desire to win at all costs would have no issue with it.
It's in a similar to walking when you've blatantly nicked it to me. I wouldn't ever do it so can't ever moan when an opponent does it to me. All the spirit of the game is for me contrived guff that sounds good but when it comes to the crunch people ignore and play to win.

I played a good level and represented Surrey at youth level, in muck about practice games at both the school and at Surrey, we’d pretend that especially as I was a spin bowler, but I’d never appeal and would rib the batsmen for trying to get away
If we did that in a competitive game, you’d not play for the school or be invited back to training with Surrey , there’s etiquette and respect and a code of conduct, it’s a law ,yes , but a piss poor way to act , and I’m sure anyone who taught you the game of cricket would be disappointed in your approach to sportsmanship
I suspect if a batsmen needed 6 runs off the last ball of the innings and you were bowling you’ d underarm bowl the last ball along the pitch, to negate the chance of a 6
It’s the same etiquette and respect of your opponent, the batsmen edging out of his crease is not comparable to the loss of a wicket by a muggy bowler trying it on and going against the spirit of the game
It’s akin to Suarez or naymar diving around getting players booked or sent off and winning penalties, piss poor
