I thought the reason they didn’t declare after the wicket was because Herath is retiring after this test and as a mark of respect I think they wanted to let him finish his over and then have his moment of glory as the teams came off.

Superb win, nearly everyone contributed and some good confidence boosters. Bairstow will have a hard job getting back in now.

He shouldn't, he is the second best batsman in that side

Great effort from everyone. First time in a while, the whole team have contributed.

^^ Yep it was, excluding the first session we were in total control. Some really good cricket played as well

That's debatable after they way he played against India.

Also who do you drop? No way Foakes after keeping brilliantly and scoring a ton. It was bad enough when they dropped Curran in the summer, sends completely the wrong message.

Personally I'd do a straight swap for Butler and have Foakes as keeper

Drop Butler for Bairstow? Really?

That's bonkers.

Yeah he's the better batsman (in tests)

Not recently he hasn't been, I'd agree over the past couple of years yes he has however if you look at the recent India series Buttler outshone Bairstow convincingly.

Foakes is the best gloveman out of the 3 and coming off the back of a good ton. The only way I can see to get Bairstow in the side is to drop Curran, go with Anderson and Stokes as the seamers and use Leach Rashid and Ali as spin options.

They won't do that so for the foreseeable future I can't see Jonny getting back in the side. Also I would be amazed if Broad comes in given his batting vs Curran's

Good stuff from Jennings. I’ve been a vocal critic of him and said he shouldn’t have been picked after the summer but he did well - in both innings. That said, there are still big questions of him at home and equally one match doesn’t automatically make him top class,

A good team performance too and good selection and set up of the side.

For the next test, Buttler won’t be going anywhere - he’s Vice Captain and averaging 45 in Tests this year. Bairstow misses out for me, he’s not batted well in Tests for the majority of 2018 (average is 28 and 3 ducks from his last 5 innings), if Foakes falters then there’s a discussion for the 3rd test.

Stokes to come in at 3. Not a bad idea to be honest....

Whatever, so long as we can get to the point where we can have the same 1, 2 & 3 from one series to the next. When did that last happen? Probably not since Strauss retired.

Not the best morning!

165/6

Jennings went for 1 in typical fashion, Stokes at 3 didn’t pay off straight away, Root therefore in too early again, Mooen and Foakes now gone for low double digit scores too - doesn’t look like Foakes hit it though but he didn’t review it! Good start for Burns but not able to go on and capitalise. Good stuff from Buttler today.

You think Bairstow would have beat Butler's 63 today? Looked by far our best batsman out there....

250 might be a very good score on this wicket.

250 up with Curran after some big 6s and Jimmy sweeping and reverse sweeping!

Every chance he could have beat it, are people writing Bairstow off after one test series against India? Do you genuinely believe Buttler is the better test match batsmen?
