'Three-time Formula 1 world champion Niki Lauda has died at the age of 70, his family says, nine months after undergoing a lung transplant.
The legendary Austrian took the title for Ferrari in 1975 and 1977 and McLaren in 1984.
For many, he will be remembered for his remarkable recovery and return to racing after being badly burned in a crash in the 1976 German Grand Prix.
"[He was] a role model and a benchmark for all of us," his family said'.
A great driver & his duel with James Hunt in 1976 will be remembered forever, by fans of motor racing.
RIP Niki Lauda

Re: RIP Niki Lauda
Had been ill for some time and away from the Mercedes set up so this was not a shock, but still sad to see a sporting icon pass. He was a warrior of a driver and to have suffered such serious injuries as to be given the last rites only to turn it around and be behind a wheel again so quickly speaks volumes.
RIP

Re: RIP Niki Lauda
A tough and very determined sportsman - unbelievable what he achieved after that crash in '76 , unbelievable .
Breathing in those fumes while the flames were eating at his face caused health problems - needed a lung transplant , needed a kidney transplant - it's testament to his courage and mental toughness that he lived as long as he did .
I realise it's apples and pears but when you compare Niki Lauda to the modern day footballer it makes you smile .

He took on Boeing after one of his planes crashed. They tried to blame pilot error but after using an independent flight simulator as opposed to Boeings the plane crashed every time the reverse thrust came on.
His bravery behind the wheel needs no more words from me.
