All the of luck in the future Deano - as the present and recent past have been the shittiest.

I hope you find something in the sport that can compensate as you would have been one of the most prolific goalscorers in any league.

Lets give some sort of testimonial!

A very sad day.

Deano has been somewhat of a mythical figure. We often pined for his return, we saw some flashes of pure brilliance. Ultimatley we saw little of nothing of him, and for that we should all be depressed.

Imagine if the SWP injury never happened ? Imagine if Ashton had the full opportunity to partner Tevez, Cole, Bellamy, Di Michele or Franco. Imagine what three full years could have done for the man who scored those wonderful goals against Man City in 2006.

I wish him all the best in retirement.

Also knew this might be coming but I kept hoping against hope that today would never happen. I am truly gutted for us, for England and for Dean himself. He was such an immense talent no other West Ham player had reignited and rekindled my hope that we had a truly great footballer amongst us. I know he has been mocked in this forum many a time, sometimes even close to being funny and I am sure Deano would at times have a quiet chuckle at some of the things said about him but we will never know now how great he would have bee. He would have been right up there with Moore, Hurst,Peters Brooking............. of this I am quite sure.
Good luck in the future Dean you have been loved . :crest: :( :crest:

Called this 2 years ago when he came back visibly limping after missing an entire season.

I'm not the first to say it on this thread, but I don't see how we can get compensation from the FA, not after we offered him a new contract 18mths + AFTER the "career ending" injury.

And as for suing SWP - no chance

Do you think he will get a testimonial? Or do you have to play in your own?

although it has been expected for a while now, it is still a shock and quite upsetting now it has been officially announced. A huge loss to football, whether it be England, West Ham or whoever. Thoughts to Dean for what must be a very traumatic time. I hope he gets into something within the game, whether managing or media.

Now I will have a Domino's pizza in memory of Dean Ashton

also, I trust the travelling lads tomorrow will chant his name. Perhaps later in the season the club can have him as a special guest so he can get a proper send off

Thank you Dean, twas brief but loved every minute. Spoke to him a few times in Bishops Stortford always polite.

I will miss that touch of arrogance and the feeling that if he was on the pitch everything would be ok.

My favs.
5. Dying his hair yellow as if that would fool us on the monk patch
4. Man U overhead
3. The ball to Scaloni
2. The sense to follow up Etherington scuff

I know he is a keen and talented golfer.

Might be going Julian Dicks's way?

If he doesn't, i think some sort of Dean Ashton benefit match or something would be a nice gesture.

Maybe West Ham Vs Crewe giving the fans a chance to give him a good send off and him to say goodbye.

Harsh - he didn't ask to get injured. I'd go along. It'd be nice for the fans to say goodbye to him. In ten years time there'll still be threads on here about how things would have been different if only Ashton hadn't got crocked - although by then KUMB will be streamed directly into our cyborg brains via Bluetooth v3.0. I'm gutted, but by now, not surprised...

Good luck Deano, now stop it with the silly hair. One is not a villain in a 1980s Sci Fi film.
