Re: The January transfer window [POLL]
No players left which is a massive to G & S, and 3 strikers in, got to be happy with that.
Even if 1 of the strikers is Mido......

Re: The January transfer window [POLL]
In terms of signings made I can't help but feel happy, we needed options up front and have bought them in without having to sell players. They also lived up to the promise of not having to sell players as well.
Disappointed we weren't in for Moses, Wigan might have a bargain at £2.5m and i'm slightly concerned that we didn't see the £7m "transfer kitty" materialise at any stage. Hopefully this was because we could get the suitable signings for cheap...

Reasonably happy. As already mentioned spine of team still inplace, three new reasonable options - one a potentially very effective partner for Cole. Would have been over the moon with Ferreira, Bentley and RVN but as the old saying goes beggers ...etc.........
Couldnt have asked for much more really a short term, value for money solution to a potential impending crisis. G&S as good as their word so far. Stay up and build sensibly in the summer.

I agree. That said, at the start of the window we hadn't been sold so it could be a lot worse.carnage wrote:Quite pleased.
3 more strikers is overkill, would have liked a full back....

Not thrilled. Though, we haven't got the dough to have got any better, so in the circumstances...
Biggest reason to be happy is not losing anyone.

All things considering: For now its reasonably good business.
Quashie gone.
Cole, Upson and Green still here.
3 strikers in, 2 of whom will either work out or not but with little damage done at the end of season if they dont.
No defensive back up is a little concerning.
Expect to stay up.
Expect to see a very different team come next season

I'm absolutely delighted and the best signing of the lot and with the most potential to improve is Mido .
He's got nothing to lose and no big price tag to live up to .
He'll be a huge success I'm sure .

I agree 3 strikers seems like one too many. But better to have too much than not enough (as we have in the last month or so)carnage wrote:Quite pleased.

As for the full back question, I'm not sure. I'm actually happy enough with Faubert & Ilunga as 1st choices, and Spector as back up to both. I'd be more concerned about central defence. If Upson & Tomkins are fit, we're sorted. If one or both is injured, we don't have much in the way of back up (it would be different if Gabbs could be relied on). Da Costa has done okay, from what little I've seen of him, but we don't have much else in that position
I'd have liked a bit more width, that's just me
The bottom line, as far as I'm concerned, is that we should easily have enough to survive the season. We can then look more closely at the squad in the summer

Re: The January transfer window [POLL]
I'm undecided because only avoiding relegation will show that this was a good transfer window.
Keeping our best players was crucial to staying up, when we lose one of Upson/Cole/Parker the team automatically plays worse. This will hopefully be enough to keep us up, especially with all 3 players returning to fitness.
However, I am unconvinced that Mido or Illan will contribute a significant enough amount to keep us up. I have faith that McCarthy will come good, however, Zola needs to remember how to play 4-4-2, and needs to decide how to include Diamanti, who is undroppable at this stage.

Re: The January transfer window [POLL]
Two weeks ago it was despair city and fire sales ahead.
We close the window with all our assets intact and three new players.
Ok they are not world beaters, but the squad has been strengthened in an area we needed it most.
Yes we need a right back but Faubert is doing Ok there, strikers were more pressing.
I'm delighted...I cant see how people can be unhappy.

Why is there never a proper in-between?
I'm not 'reasonably happy', I'm very happy, but not absolutely delighted.
Bah, I'm not voting.
Stick yer poll....

Re: The January transfer window [POLL]
We've gotten in new owners, the only players we've lost are the amazingly poor Quashie and the unbelievably ineffective Jiminez, whilst we've brought in THREE strikers, a position that we desperately needed players in.
All in all, we've done what we needed to do. There isnt really any way that we could have done much better.

Resonably Happy - I just hope we don't live to regret our failure to bring in a defender.
