I'm amazed people have long shopping lists of three or four players. We're in second place, we have players coming back from injury and probably have a deeper squad than almost anyone else in the division. We might have some positions where we would like to have a better player, or more depth, but overall we're not doing too badly and probably don't have the cash to be adding significant established players to the wage bill. There is a general lack of pace about the side, and if we were to bring in one player, I think a wide player would be where I would be looking.

It's been a while since a transfer window hasn't been about desperately trying to salvage our season. The order of preference of what I'd like to see done in January:

1. Attempt to lock down Tomkins and Green. I think we can win promotion without adding any new signings this window, but I'm not so sure we can get promotion if we lose these two.

2. Sign a 4th CB - one who will be able to play in the PL should we make it back. Ridgewell would be the obvious choice, but anyone who fits the bill. Get point 1 and point 2 completed and we should know what our central defence next year will look like: Green - Tomkins - New CB with Reid and Faye as excellent squad members ready to step up as and when. That would be the foundation on which to build a new PL team.

And in the near term, having a fourth body will prevent the scrambling around for a loan player we've seen this past fortnight when one of our current 3 CBs gets incapacitated. Next time we might not have an international window to help us out.

3. Winger with a decent cross on him to hit any of our lumbering strikers

4. Get Ilunga and his tens of thousands of pounds pw contract off the books

Don't think we need to do anything else.

Meant Luke Varney, one of the quickest players i've seen this season!

According to the 'clunge' fella, Sam is interested in Andy Johnson in January and also taking McCartney on a permanent at the end of the season regardless of if we get promoted.

You mean Andy Johnson the player who is bang in form for a Premiership club? Why would he even consider dropping a divison?

Exactly what I thought when I read it. Apparently he is top of Big Sam's wishlisht. Also, Marseille have enquired about Cole but got told he wasn't for sale. Just passing on what I've read.

Ye sorry I wasn't having a pop i'd just be very surprised if Johnson would consider a move to us. I'd rather play Baldock any way if i'm honest...

If anyone goes, in my opinion, it will be him. Out of contract in the summer, no guarentee he will sign a new one. Get somethin Jan rather than let him go for free.

I'm not saying that's what I want to happen of course, but don't be surprised if it did.

A genuine winger with pace to burn would be the final piece of the jigsaw for us i think, from a squad perspective another centre half and possibly a leftback is all thats needed assuming nobody goes! re Andy Johnson, isn't he struggling to agree terms on a new contract at fulham? and if rumours are to be believed he was pretty keen on coming here in the summer so you never know, not that i think we need him with Baldock doing the business!

two players who have impressed me on both looks a) From watching our game with them and watching V Milwall on TV was Maynard and Abdullah ,both very direct fast and produce chances running at defenders. Maynard is out of contract next summer i believe and seems unwilling to sign a new deal at BC.

Still like the look of Snodgrass but he's unlikely to be available until the end of the season should Leeds not go up.

For me he isn't all that defensively and ok going forward,

He has an unfortunate habit of hitting balls and hoping.

Not for me.

So competition/replace.

So you are not in favour of the new 'West Ham way' then?
